I was an avid reader of books before my work took most of my time so now I listen to Audible books when I'm exercising or walking my dog. I like mystery and thriller novels, particularly good serial killer novels. I'm a writer and a psychotherapist.

When Marissa is found brutally murdered, with her young daughter, Haley, resting her head on her mother's bloody breast, she sends the idyllic California town of Oak Knoll into a tailspin. Already on edge with the upcoming trial of the See- No-Evil killer, residents are shocked by reports of the crime scene, which might not have been discovered for days had it not been for a chilling 911 call: a small child's voice saying, "My daddy hurt my mommy."

The killer's methods are terrifying. He stalks the basements and underground passageways of New York City. He tattoos his victims' flesh with cryptic messages, using a tattoo gun loaded with poison, resulting in an agonizing, painful death. When a connection is made to the Bone Collector - the serial killer who terrorized New York more than a decade ago - Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs are immediately drawn into the case.

This novel has so many twists and turns I couldn't figure it out. The suspense lasted right up to the very end. Even as far fetched as some of it seemed I didn't care because it was fast paced and I was always guessing. I haven't cared for a couple of the Rhyme books but this one is a winner!

Number-one New York Times best-selling author Harlan Coben set huge sales records with last year’s Six Years - and he’s poised to do it again in his next breathtaking stand-alone thriller. Harlan Coben, author of six consecutive instant number-one New York Times best sellers and a total of 24 award-winning, best-selling, and internationally acclaimed novels, returns with another ripped-from-real-life thriller full of impossibly high emotional stakes and the real-to-life characters for which he has become famous.

I really didn't want this book to end. It was interesting every step of the way. I couldn't ever figure out what was coming next, the narrator was great.
I haven't been listening to much of Coben because I listened to a couple of disappointing books but he hit a home run with this one.
    I highly recommend it!

The scion of an old-money San Francisco family, Daniel Brasher left his well-paying, respectable money-manager position to marry his community organizer wife and work at a job he loves, leading group counseling sessions with recently paroled violent offenders. One night he finds an envelope - one intended for someone else that was placed in his office mailbox by accident. Inside is an unsigned piece of paper, a handwritten note that says, "Admit what you've done or you will bleed for it."

Hurwitz wrote a winner with this one. I couldn't figure it out at all and was intrigued the entire time. There is no down time, it's fast paced and full of suspense. Scott Brick does an excellent job narrating it.

When Dr. Alan Gregory's good friend Peter Arvin is found bloody and dying on the stage of a Colorado theatre, suspicion soars that he has become the second victim of a killer whose first prey was discovered amid the elaborate scenery of the road company's production of the Broadway show Miss Saigon. Alan is immediately asked to respond to two pleas for help: one from the police, who would like a psychological profile of the murderer, and one from Peter's widow, who is desperate to know the meaning of her dead husband's secrets.

description and not enough action. It's worth listening to but then again, someone needs to teach Dick Hill how to read women's parts so they don't all sound like lispy air heads, especially when White's female characters are anything but. The book is interesting. It's worth purchasing but I've listened to other authors that hold my attention better.

It was a case guaranteed to spark a media feeding frenzy: a young mother, blond and pretty, disappears without a trace from her South Boston home, leaving behind her four-year-old daughter as the only witness and her handsome, secretive husband as the prime suspect. But from the moment Detective Sergeant D. D. Warren arrives at the Joneses - a snug little bungalow, she senses something off about the picture of wholesome normality the couple worked so hard to create.

Gardner is fairly new to me so I was unsure as to the quality of her writing overall. This book kept me interested every moment! I couldn't believe it. I've also been listening to some Steven White and Lee Child and am very tired of having to listen through the dull, tear my hair out, boring parts to get to the good parts. I couldn't figure this book out at all. It kept me guessing right up to the last twelve minutes. The readers were very good and didn't detract from the novel. I highly recommend this listen.

There's a twisted serial killer stalking the streets of New York City, dealing his own perverse version of justice. He kills swiftly and silently, leaving his calling card: a red "J" on the bodies of his prey. His victims have one thing in common: they've all been jurors in the city's most infamous cases; cases in which the killer was found "not guilty". Overnight, the Justice Killer has the city in a stranglehold. And there's only one man who has a shot at finding him.

I have one more novel to listen to by Lutz and then I won't have anymore serial killer novels. Lutz manages to write about the same subject in the same city every single time and every single time I just don't want to stop listening. I have no idea how he manages it but he does and every one is a very good listen. Scott Brick is an excellent reader.

In a novel that slams through one hairpin surprise after another, Lee Child unleashes a thriller that spans three decades and gnaws at the heart of America...and for Jack Reacher, a man who trusts no one and likes it that way, it's a mystery with only one answer the kind that comes when you finally get face-to-face and look your worst enemy in the eye.

I love the Jack Reacher series but they are uneven. Some are riveting and some, like this one, have me wishing that a good editor had gone through the novel and done a lot of cutting. There was just too much time spent on what people are thinking or on descriptions that just didn't add to the story. Even Dick Hill, one of my favorite readers, couldn't pull it along.

I'd never listened to this author before but I try to find readers I enjoy and Scott Brick is the narrator. What a pleasant surprise. I found the suspense riveting, a book that I didn't want to stop listening to so I found things to do that would allow me to continue listening. I'm going to check now to see what other books Browne has written. While there were a couple of small moments when I wished the protagonist would quick thinking about something and do something instead overall the book is well written and there was never a moment I could figure out what was going to happen next.

I've slogged part one and almost all of part two and it's as bad as it was in the beginning. I know that Koontz sometimes takes awhile to get off the ground so I made myself keep listening. It is beyond boring, with the boy who is either an idiot or an alien, the dog who gives driving directions and three different stories that have yet to converge, and I just can't go on listening. I give! The narrator is excellent but even her terrific reading can't rescue this dog.
