I bought this audible book because of the high reviews. I expected to learn something about medicine/bellevue.Those subjects were somewhat discussed (unbelievably in English) but the rest of the book might as well have been in Spanish because that's all I heard as the author speaks back and forth to his paitents - in my foreign tongue. Nice - but for some reason it drove me CRAZY or LOCA depending on how you look at it. He also explains his and other's Latino culture - IN DETAIL.....until I went completly LOCA and - ELIMINADA DEL LIBRO!!!!!! (for our English readers) means DELETED THE BOOK!!!! This book might be fine and a very good listen for others. It just hit me the wrong way. Sorry
i dont know - eric manheimer was dry but did have some care in his voice
must have latino background to understand
After reading past reviews I was worried I would be disappointed, but I'm glad I took the chance and used my credit. Yes, the narration is dry if not all out boring. Words are mispronounced etc. However, the story itself kept me listening. I could not get over how this killer could have been caught earlier but due to hospitals being more worried over lawsuits than patient's lives, he was passed on from hospital to hospital. It's sick how legal concerns are paramount to people within our hospitals. This story stands as an example.
This book is a must read. It will open your eyes about how far people will go when under disaster. The book follows doctors during and after hurricane Katrina who were later charged with the euthanasia of 19 patients. The book is informative and kept my interest. What would force doctors trained to save lives get to the point on actually "putting down" helpless patients. It opens questions such as "Do doctors, under devastating circumstances, have the right to decide who lives and dies claiming to do so for the greater good?" I also found how America sadly tosses aside the elderly - viewing them as disposable. Abuse of the elderly is a hugh problem and as a result they are highly discriminated against. This book brings to light many questions as to the treatment of patients and the power of doctors under their care. To be honest, I saw this dilemma from many different sides, the doctor's, hospital's, goverment's, relatives of dead loved ones, and of course the patients who now have no say.
narrator wasn't bad - book however was hard to follow and poorly written
a little anger that more detail weren't given for the listener/reader to understand what was going on
I've waited awhile to write this review. Gone Girl remains the best book I've listened to since I started with Audible. Constant twists and turns leaves you never able to guess the ending. Just when you think you've got it figured out - everything changes. Gone Girl is both well written and narrated and very suspenseful. At first, though, I found this book hard to listen to - even quite boring - but soon I couldn't get enough. It quickly turned into one of my favorite books. I have what I call "book withdrawal" where when I've finished a book it seems I can't find another to replace it - in the sense that it sucks me in with plot and characters. It's been over a year now and I am still in "book withdrawal" from Gone Girl. My advice - read it, listen to it, whatever - you WILL not be disappointed!
I think Mr Hobbs was trying to recreate a new "Jack Reacher" by giving tips and explainations to aspects of his character's crimes. Mr. Hobbs almost made it with his character "The Ghostman" I found the book entertaining and interesting even though it's no Lee Childs. I feel as this author grows along with his character, the plot and writing will get much more tighter and smooth. I will definitely check out anything new with Roger Hobbs - he's up and coming.
i read the reviews before listening and i must agree that the narrator - Jack Weber was a tad slow and somewhat monotonous. However, it wasn't to the point of distraction and probably wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't have read previous reviews. I guess book reviews can backfire.
