I bought this yesterday, listened to it yesterday and am starting over again today. I love these stories.
Some of the stories kind of remind me of a Wes Anderson script, but darker- dry, smart, funny...and I loved hearing him read the stories, I think, had I read them myself, I would have had a different interpretation on some. He writes like I speak, but smarter.
Anyway- I loved it, listening again and I'm sure I'll listen many times over, and buy the book so I can underline clever sentences- the writing is just wonderful- so much to love about this book :)
I read this in 2007 when it first came out- that's crazy right? So now in 2015, I decided to listen. I loved it just as much- the story is so great. More than anything, I feel like it's about history and family, but also about a person going though a unique life- a character study, but much more. I can't imagine anyone not loving it :)
I hate to be harsh, but you can see where this book is going pretty early on- you hope you're wrong so you keep listening...then, nope, just what you expected. A little twist at the end, but it's not enough, in fact, it makes the whole story even more irritating.
Sorry, I know lots of you love this story based on the reviews, but I'm not a fan.
So don't worry! I put off listening to this story because I had already seen (the terrible) tv series. The book and the series don't actually have much in common- some of the same characters and the dome I guess.
I enjoyed the story, but there are some real jerks living in Chester's Mill- hate those guys!
I was really into this story-beautifully written, interesting characters- then it just ended.
What the beep?
So I'm left to ponder what happened to all these people, and what was the real point of the book. I get it, I guess, but I seriously had no idea that the book was about to end when the "audible hopes you've enjoyed this program" came on. I wanted more! wahh!
I really loved this book-- mystery, murder, creepiness, a bunch of surprises, a couple of grumpy old ladies. This reader is amazing too- seriously one of the best audio performances I've heard.
Definitely well worth a credit- an all around enjoyable listen.
Kind of ridiculous, but still a fun listen. I bought this title because it was in Audible's list: "The Next Gone Girl?", this was much more predictable than Gone Girl- still had a few surprises.
This book is listed in Mysteries & Thrillers> Suspense, but should probably be Mysteries & Thrillers > Suspense > Erotica. Will the "virgin" cyber sex star with serious psychological issues of her own become a hero? And will she find true love? And if all that happens- can she save herself?
Well I'm not telling :)
Stephen King tweeted about how much he liked this book and The Homecoming, so of course I bought it right away! I really liked the story- crime mixed with supernatural elements I guess you could say--but the reader- sorry- just so breathy and sing songy- probably right or some stories, but not for this one.
So I don't know- maybe try the sample and see if you're ok with the reader before you buy it- or try the book. I see the next one is read by someone else so fingers crossed for a better outcome.
I have seen this movie- who hasn't? But I saw it when I was a teenager and didn't remember much aside from the grosser parts of the film. The book was a surprise- not really a horror book at all, sure it was really creepy in parts- and there were lots of gross bits, but more of a character study with a lot of good vs.evil. I thought it was really interesting --very well written and William Peter Blatty did such a great job reading. He really brought the characters to life. So glad that I listened!
What a really sucky thing to happen to a nice girl :) I haven't seen this movie so the story was a surprise for me, and although there are a lot of clues as to what's going to happen, the ending was kind of insane- baffling really! Fun listen- I didn't find it scary, but tense sometimes and Mia Farrow was great reading it.
Pretty much the sunniest, happiest, cheesiest and most romantic comedy in the the whole world. So adorable...
Now, I know, we're not always in the mood for such sentiment and happiness and giddy jumping around, but if you're in the mood- this is a good one. Now I'm moving on to Rosemary's Baby to undo some of this :)
on a side note- I love Audible's Daily Deals- try something new for cheap!
