One of the most important and blazingly original writers of his generation, George Saunders is an undisputed master of the short story, and Tenth of December is his most honest, accessible, and moving collection yet. In the taut opener, "Victory Lap", a boy witnesses the attempted abduction of the girl next door and is faced with a harrowing choice: Does he ignore what he sees, or override years of smothering advice from his parents and act? In "Home", a combat-damaged soldier moves back in with his mother and struggles to reconcile the world he left with the one to which he has returned.

I bought this yesterday, listened to it yesterday and am starting over again today. I love these stories.

Some of the stories kind of remind me of a Wes Anderson script, but darker- dry, smart, funny...and I loved hearing him read the stories, I think, had I read them myself, I would have had a different interpretation on some. He writes like I speak, but smarter.

Anyway- I loved it, listening again and I'm sure I'll listen many times over, and buy the book so I can underline clever sentences- the writing is just wonderful- so much to love about this book :)

I haven't touched another person in three years. That seems like it would be a difficult task, but it's not. Not anymore, thanks to the internet. My anonymous clients spend thousands of dollars to watch me take my clothes off for the camera. What they want, I give. Their secrets, I keep. Everything I tell them is a lie. Open the door to this year's most shocking thriller.

Kind of ridiculous, but still a fun listen. I bought this title because it was in Audible's list: "The Next Gone Girl?", this was much more predictable than Gone Girl- still had a few surprises.

This book is listed in Mysteries & Thrillers> Suspense, but should probably be Mysteries & Thrillers > Suspense > Erotica. Will the "virgin" cyber sex star with serious psychological issues of her own become a hero? And will she find true love? And if all that happens- can she save herself?

    Well I'm not telling :)

A boy literally disappears from Main Street. A security camera captures the moment of his instant, inexplicable vanishing. An audacious bank robbery goes seriously wrong: four cops are gunned down; a TV news helicopter is shot and spins crazily out of the sky, triggering a disastrous cascade of events that ricochet across twenty different lives over the course of just thirty-six hours. Nick Kavanaugh, a cop with a dark side, investigates.

Stephen King tweeted about how much he liked this book and The Homecoming, so of course I bought it right away! I really liked the story- crime mixed with supernatural elements I guess you could say--but the reader- sorry- just so breathy and sing songy- probably right or some stories, but not for this one.

So I don't know- maybe try the sample and see if you're ok with the reader before you buy it- or try the book. I see the next one is read by someone else so fingers crossed for a better outcome.

Four decades after it first shook the nation, then the world, William Peter Blatty's thrilling masterwork of faith and demonic possession returns in an even more powerful form. Raw and profane, shocking and blood-chilling, it remains a modern parable of good and evil and perhaps the most terrifying novel ever written.

I have seen this movie- who hasn't? But I saw it when I was a teenager and didn't remember much aside from the grosser parts of the film. The book was a surprise- not really a horror book at all, sure it was really creepy in parts- and there were lots of gross bits, but more of a character study with a lot of good vs.evil. I thought it was really interesting --very well written and William Peter Blatty did such a great job reading. He really brought the characters to life. So glad that I listened!

She is a housewife: young, healthy, blissfully happy. He is an actor: charismatic and ambitious. The spacious, sun-filled apartment on Manhattan's Upper West Side is their dream home, a dream that turns into an unspeakable nightmare. Enter the chilling world of Ira Levin, where terror is as near as your new neighbors and where evil wears the most innocent face of all.

What a really sucky thing to happen to a nice girl :) I haven't seen this movie so the story was a surprise for me, and although there are a lot of clues as to what's going to happen, the ending was kind of insane- baffling really! Fun listen- I didn't find it scary, but tense sometimes and Mia Farrow was great reading it.

Pretty much the sunniest, happiest, cheesiest and most romantic comedy in the the whole world. So adorable...

Now, I know, we're not always in the mood for such sentiment and happiness and giddy jumping around, but if you're in the mood- this is a good one. Now I'm moving on to Rosemary's Baby to undo some of this :)

on a side note- I love Audible's Daily Deals- try something new for cheap!

I am a "constant reader" and often get on Stephen King kicks- I can't believe I hadn't visited this book yet. Really scary-and in a way that you think- man, that could happen maybe- could that happen? Are there ghosts like that? I loved the characters and will miss them and I even loved SK reading- and sometimes I don't :)

Patrick Bateman moves among the young and trendy in 1980s Manhattan. Young, handsome, and well educated, Bateman earns his fortune on Wall Street by day while spending his nights in ways we cannot begin to fathom. Expressing his true self through torture and murder, Bateman prefigures an apocalyptic horror that no society could bear to confront.

I started this book a couple of months ago, stopped, started, stopped, started- it was pretty sad in the beginning, and I couldn't stay with it.

BUT when I came back to it a third time nicer things started happening. I can't remember exactly what Mr. Pucci says, but something about finding happiness and letting yourself be happy. That's pretty nice. I ended up really enjoying this book and the characters (except for a few characters who remained real jerks). ha :)

Oh- and there was something that comes back around towards the end of the book which is fun- I thought- "gah- should have seen that coming", but it happened so long ago it didn't register until she mentioned it, but it was a great element to the story.

Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer. Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries....

Sometimes you just want to hear a fun story and this might be it. No, it's not literature- it's not complicated or even well written...ok, that sounds snotty, but I don't mean it to be.

I bought this from the Audible daily sale and I've listened to it in between this and that- when you want to cook or do something else, or just get away from the crazy deep story that you're listening to- it's a fun one! I might even buy another as this Atticus sounds so cute :)

I liked this story--- creepy and fun and mysterious. It was so long though that I'd find myself zoning out often. I also can't tell you how many times I'd think "oh good! ____ is going to happen!" and then nothing would happen and I'd be disappointed- ha.

Still- good story- fun listen- oh and getting the pdfs was really fun too- don't forget to look at those :)
