  • 11-22-63: A Novel

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

eeee! I am in love with this story!

I actually purchased this story -what?- like 2 years ago for a road trip my husband and I were taking. It must have been hard to concentrate on, sitting in a car with another person- chatting here and there etc and I just couldn't really get into it.

I thought I didn't like it. Although- that seemed weird because I love Stephen King stories.

Anyway, this week I returned to it after buying a book that was much too sad to finish. I started it over and was immediately captivated. Why didn't I like this before? And I probably should not be reviewing a book when I'm only 1/2 done, but I can't help it.

Also- I've read "It", and I've listened to "It", and I'll be re-listening to It first thing when I'm done :)

    Get this one!

Julia and Joe Ferraro are living the good life in Manhattan now that Joe's finally made it; he's the star of a hit TV show and has just been nominated for a Golden Globe award. After many lean years, they've got a grand Upper West Side apartment and an Amagansett beach house, and their two kids go to elite private schools. Even better, Julia and Joe are still madly in love. Or so Julia thinks.

After I listened to "The Good House" (which is so so good!) I wanted to hear more from Ann Leary so I listened to "Outtakes from a Marriage: A Novel". It was good.

I actually got a bit stressed out with it and didn't finish it as quickly as I could have, but came back to it. Marriage on the rocks in the celebrity world, but in a very real way that made me a bit sad. It's not really a sad story, but has moments of sadness and regret along with moments of joy and pride and youthful love that most of us can relate to.

The reader was really really good- I'll look for more of her!

Schroder relates the story of Eric's urgent escape years later to Lake Champlain, Vermont, with his six-year-old daughter, Meadow, in an attempt to outrun the authorities amid a heated custody battle with his wife, who will soon discover that her husband is not who he says he is. From a correctional facility, Eric surveys the course of his life to understand - and maybe even explain - his behavior.

I would have never picked up this book based on it's description, but happened on a review and decided to listen anyway.

And I don't normally write reviews, because I'm not a good writer, but I have to tell you (as I've told my friends one by one today) that I listened to this whole book yesterday and started it again today. It is perfect. It is funny and sad and moving and every single sentence is so well constructed and lovely...the reader is perfect. I'm not kidding at all, this is the best book I've ever listened to-- don't pass it by.

I hope her other books will be available on Audible- in the meantime, I'm going to read them!

The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

After listening to the Game of Thrones series- twice, I never thought I could love another series, but I'm loving this series. Davina Porter is such a great reader, and I love the story and the characters....so grateful! yay Jamie and Claire!
