"Very good book"
I try to be super picky about my audiobook selections. I gravitate towards the space opera's and this book allowed me to check off all the boxes on my check list. It did not disappoint. The narration is solid, the characters are very interesting. I like the fact that the author focused on two characters rather than give us a cast of thousands as some authors tend to do. You really get to understand the two men inside and out.
In all, I highly recommend this book and I look forward to the next installments. Please don't make us wait a year or two like What's-his-face with "The Passage". Think John Ringo, who'll give you a new book in 6 months. I love that! :)
"Great Story, Great Narration, Great Listen"
Each story in the series made their world more real. The author did a masterful job.
The suspense was excellent. Anybook that I can listen to while in the gym is fantastic.
I wanted to write this when I saw that the "Performance" rating was low for this book. Minnie Goode did an excellent job. Her voices were great and the pace was very good.
"Great Listen"
I wasn't expecting much from this book since I've never read/listened to a Richard Morgan book. What a pleasant surprise. Whatbi love most is thatbthe world he creates is so very plausible. It doesn'tbtake much of a mental leap to get there from here.
Thre characters are very interesting. The pace of the story may seem to slow at times, but the character development more than makes up for it. Simon Vance does an excellent job.
To give you an idea of how much I liked this book, I didn't stop listenening when I saw that the latest Joe Ledger book was available. That, is high praise.
"Absolutely Fantastic"
Like a reviewer a few years ago, I hesitated purchasing this book. I normally stick to Science Fiction (space operas) and horror. This book reminds me why I like books of that sort. The kind of savagery that human beings are capable of makes the stomach churning worlds of Scott Sigler, Clive Barker, and Alastir Reynolds seem tame.
The writing is first rate. The characters and magnificent. The narrations is....well, this is Ray Porter we're talking about.....nuff said.
"Absolutely Fantastic"
The writing is superb. The action is non stop. The characters are insane (that's a good thing). The narration is first rate. Patient zero was excellent and this book makes that look like Winnie the Pooh.
"Great book....but"
This is a great book. I'm about 40% through and I can't stop listening. Scott Brick is a master narrator. All that said, I can't give 5 stars because I'm upset that I have to wait until 2013 for the next installment. I'm willing to wait for quality writing, but waiting 4 years for a trilogy to finish is torture. Cronin has us waiting for The Passage, Scot Sigler has us waiting for the end of the Infected Trilogy and now this! At least The Strain trilogy is annual (sort of).
Give me the next installment next week and you'll get your extra star. :)
"Good book..implausible world view"
First, the book was a great listen. The characters were interesting, the SF was hard and fast, the story was well told. That said, the author's conservative views were a major part of the story, but not an overwhelming part. What got me was his view that after a devastating act on the ENTIRE planet, their wouldn't be a push to unite the planet under some common response.
He does a decent job of chronicling the bickering that might take place with different cultures, economies, and the historic grievances that run deep that would prevent a common response, but it just seems implausible. Then, again, maybe I'm one of the do-gooder liberals he bashes so often in the book. :)
All that said, it's a good listen and I'm on to the next installment.
