In his bravest and most challenging book yet, Seth Godin shows how we can thrive in an economy that rewards art, not compliance. He explains why true innovators focus on trust, remarkability, leadership, and stories that spread. And he makes a passionate argument for why you should be treating your work as art. Art is not a gene or a specific talent. It's an attitude, available to anyone who has a vision that others don't, and the guts to do something about it.

This book is not a Snuggie. The words on these pages will not go down like Ambien. I’m not writing to calm or coddle you. With God’s help, I intend to incite a riot in your mind. Trip your breakers and turn out the lights in your favorite hiding places of insecurity and fear. Then flip the switch back on so that God’s truth can illuminate the divine destiny that may have been lying dormant inside you for years. In short, I’m out to activate your audacious faith.

We tend to think of creativity in terms reminiscent of the ancient muses: divinely-inspired, unpredictable, and bestowed upon a lucky few. But when our jobs challenge us to be creative on demand, we must develop novel, useful ideas that will keep our organizations competitive. The Myths of Creativity demystifies the processes that drive innovation. Based on the latest research into how creative individuals and firms succeed, David Burkus highlights the mistaken ideas that hold us back and shows us how anyone can embrace a practical approach, grounded in reality, to finding the best new ideas, projects, processes, and programs.

You are NOT who you think you are. In fact, according to best-selling author Craig Groeschel in Altar Ego, you need to take your idea of your own identity, lay it down on the altar, and sacrifice it. Give it to God. Offer it up. Why? Because you are who GOD says you are. And until you’ve sacrificed your broken concept of your identity, you won’t become who you are meant to be. When we place our false labels and self-deception on the altar of God’s truth, we discover who we really are as his sons and daughters. Instead of an outward-driven, approval-based ego, we learn to live with an "altar" ego, God’s vision of who we are becoming.

What does Craig Groeschel bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

It was good having the author read the book. It made the transparent parts of the book believable.

What did you learn from Altar Ego that you would use in your daily life?

I was reminded and challenged by the idea that I'm an ambassador for Christ and that makes me the highest ranking official of His kingdom in my sphere of influence.

Jesus' impact on our world is highly unlikely, widely inescapable, largely unknown, and decidedly double-edged. It is unlikely in light of the severe limitations of his earthly life; it is inescapable because of the range of impact; it is unknown because history doesn't connect dots; and it is doubled-edged because his followers have wreaked so much havoc, often in his name. He is history's most familiar figure, yet he is the man no one knows. His impact on the world is immense and non-accidental.

Like others, I wish the author had read the book. He is more engaging. However the ideas presented in the book will make you think. I've never considered the impact Jesus made on our world with the depth and written by John Ortberg. Great work and well worth the listen.

Deep within you lies the same faith and longing that sent Peter walking across the wind-swept Sea of Galilee toward Jesus. In what ways is the Lord telling you, as he did Peter, 'Come'? John Ortberg invites you to consider the incredible potential that awaits you outside your comfort zone. Out on the risky waters of faith, Jesus is waiting to meet you in ways that will change you forever, deepening your character and your trust in God. The experience is terrifying. It's thrilling beyond belief. It's everything you'd expect of someone worthy to be called Lord.

In any conflict, the 1st Alternative is my way and the 2nd Alternative is your way. The fight usually boils down to a question of whose way is better. There are many methods of “conflict resolution,” but most involve compromise, a low-level accommodation that stops the fight without breaking through to amazing new results. The 3rd Alternative is about more than just an armistice - it’s about creating a new and improved reality. The 3rd Alternative transcends traditional solutions to conflict by forging a path toward a third option....

True North shows how anyone who follows their internal compass can become an authentic leader. This leadership tour de force is based on research and first-person interviews with 125 of today's top leaders: with some surprising results. In this important audiobook, acclaimed former Medtronic CEO Bill George and coauthor Peter Sims share the wisdom of these outstanding leaders and describe how you can develop as an authentic leader.

Ray says: "Nice idea, poor execution"
    "True Insight"
    Overall

This is a refreshing look at leadership and the qualities that flow from leading from your passion. He specifically suggests that successful leaders are "authentic leaders" and that authenticity comes from intrinsic or internal motivations rather than extrinsic motivation. Examples of intrinsic motivation include passions and desire to see things change for the better. Examples of extrinsic motivation include pay, power, prestige, etc. When intrinsically motivated, leaders are less likely to compromise their values and more likely to remain authentic. When extrinsically motivated, that is less often the case.

In all, this is a wonderful listen with great insight.

As CEO, most everything that Rich O'Connor did had something to do with at least one of the four disciplines on his famed "yellow sheet." Rich never suspected that it would become the blueprint of an employee's plan to destroy the firm. Best selling author Lencioni brings us a fable that focuses on a leader's crucial role in building a healthy organization.

I appreciate the author's style and the Obsessions seem to be very relevant to my situation at work. He uses a story to illustrate the points he's making. The story sets up the Obsessions while providing memorable characters and a context for the content. I've listened to this 3 or 4 times and recommended it to several people.
