"Party politics are meaningless - Banks rule us."
This was a very open and honest story about how our government caters to big business, in this case banks, and the rest of us are just a vehicle for them to do so. At the end of the day our wallets and purses are all our elected officials care about; not our needs and protection. The Constitution states that the purpose for the federal government is to protect the people. This book makes it abundantly clear that is a meaningless charge when it comes to the latest group of "for sale" administrations. Bush setup TARP and Obama ran it. And both Administrations lied to the public when it came to how the funds would be used to pass it, and all of them made sure the Banks (and Wall Street) were protected in the mortgage bailout, while we picked up the tab and did not get anything for our money!!
This book was written by someone that knows where all the bodies are buried and whose job it was to police these bailouts. He was our advocate in Washington by Congressional mandate and he was ignored and considered an obstacle by the crooks in the Treasury department. It is those appointees, who should be in jail for fraud along with the bankers that ripped off everyone, but instead they were given a free pass and bonuses by their Wall Street pals in the Treasury Department with taxpayer bailout funds!! And it should come as no surprise that they are positioning us for another round of rip-offs as I write this review, but no one seems to notice or care. The occupy Wall Street crowd was not wrong, just too unfocused. In the end, this book proves that we as Americans have a serious problem with our system and elected officials. They only care about money and power, and those of you loyal to a political party are just their pawns in a much bigger game where you are the cannon fodder. Believing in any politician is like believing in the Easter bunny because they all have their hand out and this book helps to prove that assertion.
This is a very important book and folks should spend the credit, listen to it, and start voting out these folks. It is clear the writer does not have a political axe to grind because he blames both parties for the endless stream of Wall Street insiders appointed to the Treasury department. IT is very clear that the Treasury Department puts Wall Street first, even when they commit fraud – while the rest of us go to jail for the same crimes they commit daily……
GET THIS BOOK. INVESTIGATE THE WRITER. HE IS THE REAL DEAL.
"A short story written as a novel"
Let me first say I am a Vince Flynn fan and I have read all of his works. I find Mitch Rapp an interesting character and fun to follow.
That being said, this was really what seemed to be a short story that was very long winded when it came to the telling it. This book could easily be an abridged recording and effectively told in 90 minutes or less. I am not saying it was a bad story, only that is was stretched considerably to make it a book and I find that very disappointing.
Flynn is a good writer and I have found his prior works to filled with meaningful content and short on fill. That is not the case with this book unfortunately I am very sorry to say.
"The author has Fascist beliefs, more than religion"
I agree with reader Jeremy's assessment - "This book is both disturbing and interesting." Although I would not say it is "very" interesting due to the excessive rambling and wishy washy nature of the authors situational ethics. On one hand he loves the excesses of the western world, while at the same time he hates the people and culture that create all of them. On one hand he loves and marries a woman from a western country, yet deep down he will not even admit it to himself he hates what she and everyone from her culture represents. In the end it becomes clear that Omar is in reality a Fascist due to his criminal "us against them" beliefs that go to the extreme of - do as we say or we have the right to kill you. In the end it became clear to me this work is nothing more than Jihadi propaganda supporting the belief that a Caliphate under Sharia Law is the best course for the planet.
And Yes, dear readers Fascist is an accurate term when it comes to the level of intolerance this writer exhibits from behind false pretense of him being a long suffering agent just trying to do the right thing - just trying to stop the extremists. In the end you learn he is just a blood thirsty as any radical Jihadist. When killing your opponent is the best solution because; they do not practice the same rituals as you do when they worship, or they do not agree with your personal beliefs, or they trespass on your land with or without cause (in your opinion) what else would you call it? These folks would much rather live a tribal existence in the middle ages and not become productive members of civilized society. That message came through loud and clear in this reading. And the Jihaddis cannot be "left alone" as long as they insist on exporting this hatred beyond their current bounds. The Western world may be "the Great Satan" but they do not have a plan, policy, or faith that insists on eliminating all non-believers in the great western way. My question is, where will the great mujahideen get their advanced weapons and high tech tools to carry on the struggle once "The Great Satan" is eliminated? There will still be battles to fight, starting with the "innovators" inside their faith. These are questions the book does not begin to address but presents........All in all I think the author is very immature and has serious anger issues that go well beyond religion or national origin. He states that he does not have much of a life and he really only has one person to blame for that outcome.
"Why is this not classified as a religious text????"
The 3 stars is being generous......
I am incredibly disappointed by the "preachy" nature of this book. It would have been nice to know in advance it would be on par with most materials handed out by the "door knockers" when it comes to the level of proselytizing. All this gab has little to do with the story and more to do with the selling of a point!
As a person of faith I am not against the message, but I do think this book has been misrepresented by the author at the very least. It was my understanding this was a spy/military/thriller, not a biblical text.
I am just over 3 hours into this story and I find it at best slow, and I may not actually finish it if it continues at the same droning pace. Being completely candid - I consider it far from a "must listen" or a "can't put down" book. All in all it is below average and I doubt I will purchase another by this author. I would advise more action and less fill, not to mention preaching, in future publications.
