Thousands of years ago, fairies and humans fought a great battle for the magical island of Ireland. When it became clear that they could not win, all of the fairies moved below ground, except for the 8th Family, the demons. Rather than surrender, they used a magical time spell to take their colony out of time and into Limbo. There they have lived for decades, preparing to exact their violent revenge on humans.

In Christopher Moore's ingenious debut novel, we meet one of the most memorably mismatched pairs in the annals of literature. The good-looking one is one-hundred-year-old ex-seminarian and "roads" scholar Travis O'Hearn. The green one is Catch, a demon with a nasty habit of eating most of the people he meets.

    Story

A demon named Catch that can be seen by most only in his "eating" form, an accidental and reluctant demon keeper, the salt-seeking king of the Djinn choosing Augustus Brine as his knight errant, flour explosions as invisible quarry tracking strategy (saw that on "Alphas" on TV last year as well), uneasy romance and murder -- it is a quirky cast. The book is entertaining in a frequently clever and occasionally vulgar sort of way. The demon may be the most rational of all. Good listen...

A magnificent saga of American fiction, the Sacketts series is one of the greatest treasures by legendary storyteller Louis L'Amour. In The Daybreakers, L'Amour spins the tale of two brothers who couldn't be more different - yet remain bound by their restlessness of spirit.

What made the experience of listening to The Daybreakers the most enjoyable?

Second only to Treasure Mountain, really enjoy the story arc and David Strathairn's voice - he seems to suit the material especially well.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Tyrel was my favorite character in this book ... best developed in my opinion.

Have you listened to any of David Strathairn’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I have listened to several of David Strathairn's performances. This one is fine, though again I think the best work is in Treasure Mountain. Or maybe Lonesome Gods.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Growing Up Sackett
