The mining ship El Cavador is far out from Earth, in the deeps of the Kuiper Belt, beyond Pluto. Other mining ships, and the families that live on them, are few and far between this far out. So when El Cavador’s telescopes pick up a fast-moving object coming in-system, it’s hard to know what to make of it. It’s massive and moving at a significant fraction of the speed of light.

El Cavador has other problems. Their systems are old and failing. The family is getting too big for the ship. There are claim-jumping corporate ships bringing Asteroid Belt tactics to the Kuiper Belt.

    Story
Would you consider the audio edition of Earth Unaware to be better than the print version?

I have read other books by Orson Scott Card. I cannot say which is better but I seem to be using Audible now more than reading books. It is in between a movie and a book and can be done during a commute.

What did you like best about this story?

The intelligent writing and building of pace.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The battle scene on the alien ship.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

As with many good books, the story started off slowly but by the end was gripping.

  • World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War

    • ABRIDGED (6 hrs and 3 mins)

    Story

The Zombie War came unthinkably close to eradicating humanity. Max Brooks, driven by the urgency of preserving the acid-etched first-hand experiences of the survivors from those apocalyptic years, traveled across the United States of America and throughout the world, from decimated cities that once teemed with upwards of 30 million souls, to the most remote and inhospitable areas of the planet.

    Story
Is there anything you would change about this book?

I love the world of zombies and thought the idea behind the book of getting different people to tell their stories was great. Unfortunately it became a bit boring because most of the book focused on politics and military tactics. I liked those part, but think it would have been much better if it had been longer and included personal stories about those who were around during the first attacks and about those that survived in different ways. Performances were strong.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Too soon and not satisfying at all.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

    Top actors give great performances.

Was World War Z worth the listening time?

Since it was short, yes. But did become boring.
