Narrator Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

    A good narrator.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The most boring, monotone reading ever! The only thing worse was his attempt to give the characters accents - horrible. I bought this one because of the narrator's connection to Downton Abbey. Don't listen to this in the car as it will most certainly put you to sleep.

    Any additional comments?

Frankenstein is a great book, and for those who have not read it - much different from the movies. I am sure there must be a better audiobook version than this one.

Would you try another book from Matt Fitton and/or the narrators?

The audio mix on this one is very muddy and hard to hear.

Stephen King returns to the characters and territory of one of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the boy protagonist of The Shining) and the very special 12-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted fans of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon.

A worthy followup to The Shining. In addition, it has its own great story line.

Young Danny Boyle, the part-time summer cop "down the shore" in Sea Haven, New Jersey, gets taken on a wild ride when he and his longtime beach buddies become the unwitting targets of a madman's twisted scheme for revenge. Fortunately, John Ceepak, the cop with a soldier's unshakable code of honor, stays at Danny's side to help him negotiate the quick twists and turns that threaten to destroy his life, his friends, and everything about the world he loves.

As a kid I spent most of my summers at the Jersey shore. This is a trip down memory lane for me, fortunately minus the murders. The Ceepak books are great mysteries with terrific characters and one of the best audiobook narrators I have ever listened to. The added bonus is the author's attention to detail about NJ and the Jersey shore.

There isn't much fun in the sun when a billionaire real estate tycoon is found murdered on the Tilt-a-Whirl at a seedy seaside amusement park in the otherwise quiet summer tourist town of Sea Haven. John Ceepak, a former MP just back from Iraq, has just joined the Sea Haven police department. The job offer came from an old Army buddy who hoped to give Ceepak at least a summer's worth of rest and relaxation to help him forget the horrors of war. Instead, Ceepak will head up the murder investigation.
