"Can't wait for the next one..."
Really enjoyed this one. I was a little disappointed in the last one but this one has Dresden back running from one dreadful encounter to the next and yet he still comes out heroic(ish) in the end. Most of my favorite characters are back in key roles, at least those that are close to Dresden. But best of all there are lots of laughs which is one of the main reason I enjoy this series. And I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that James Marsters is back!!!
"Disapointing"
Although I have LOVED this series for a long time, I'm sad to say I have not been to happy with the last two books. I can't even pinpoint why I was disappointed, the characters are still strong and the family ties are even stronger but I just didn't feel the need to listen to it again to see what I might have missed. Which I have done for many of the previous books. I would actually listen to the latest book then go back and re-listen to the series up to the new book to enjoy it all over again. The last few however left me feeling sadly disappointed and/or disgusted and traumatised over what had happened to my favorite characters.
"Mostly Music"
The story is cute and will hold the attention of a young child (mine is currently 5 and loved it). I was a little disappointed that the story is only about 2 -3 minutes long and the rest is lullaby music. I purchased this for my little one because she enjoys the challenge of "I love you more than"... so I expected a little more out of this than what we actually got. The music is nice and peaceful enough to fall asleep to.
"Pretty Good"
J. D. Robb did not disappoint in this novel. There is a last minute twist towards the end that I hit round about 12 am and was not able to go to sleep! All in all good narrator, good story, and good ending - it feels like Eve is facing some of her issues in this book tying up loose ends. I enjoyed that she feels protective of Belle instead of being terrified of her which made me feel like she is a little closer to considering kids of her own. Which, I know she has said if the two of them reach that point it would mean the end of the series. I hope it doesn’t as I return to this series quite often.
"Good but looking forward to the next one..."
I enjoyed the book and even got over the new narrator after awhile. Of course as many have already said we want Marsters back he does add the sarcasm to the characters that we have come to know and love so much.
Through the first half of the book I was basically waiting to find out what exactly was going on with this ghost thing. The 2nd half I was basically waiting for a good close out that would leave a good direction for the next book. By the way really disappointed in how little his brother takes part in this book. The one part he was in felt more like an after thought than an actual inclusion as part of the story line. There are definite religious or at least good vs. bad overtones in this book that is more blatant than in the past. I mean we all know Dresden wins bc he's the good guy right? Overall not one of my favorites in the series but it was a good listen overall and I plan to go back and listen a 2nd time to see if maybe I missed something along the way. For those of you sitting on the fence because of all the bad reviews based only on the narrator (I was one) I would say listen to the clip that is free and if you can get over that I think you will be relatively happy you did so.
Looking forward to book 14....
"Story line good but narrator bogs it down"
It's rare that I come accross a narrator that bogs a story down so much that I just can't get into the book. But this is one of them. I have tried listening to it at least 4 times and had to stop because my mind wandered away or I just flat out feel asleep! I've listend to the majority of the first half but that took several weeks and I kept having to back up and figure out where I lost the story line. I think if I could have sped up the pace it might have worked but since that is not an option on either my computer or my curent mp3 player it was a total drag! I've listened to atleast 5 other books before trying this one more time. At this point I'm not sure I'll ever finish this. As one other person pointed out the voice does not match the main character at all. Sorry the story may be good but I think I'd rather read it myself than listen to this narrator any more.
"Thought provoking"
I really enjoyed this books concept however it did get bogged down in the details. It has so many characters that I often was lost thinking; wait a minute who was that again? It was very thought provoking and makes you wonder about this possible future. At least it made me think what if? Not necessarily go out and buy up a ton of can foods and bullets or anything but wow how would our world work if all our networks broke down? The book is good over all and is a nice long read for a long trip or something but it does get cumbersome in the middle and the end is just sad, no happy ending to tie everything up which I guess is realistic but it stinks! LOL Good read over all and I would recommend it.
"Good, but is it really a teen read?"
I really enjoyed the series and listened to all 3 in less than a week. I was shocked in the 3rd book by the sex scene.
I work with kids and teens and often read books like this to recommend (or not) as I see fit. Up to book two I would recommend this series but book 3 threw me for a loop and really shocked me with that one scene. Nothing like a little teacher/student one on one time to make me doubt the writers' sanity!
I would compare it to the Twilight series for the "OMG I love him SOOOOOOO much! I'll die with out him!" theme but if you can get past that and the weird sex scene it is a good series.
I more than likely will look into the next book when it comes out but won't be recommending it to my younger teens at all!
"Little slow at first but..."
It starts out a little slow at first and is a bit clunkie because it has sooooo many characters but in the end I really enjoyed it. So much so that within a month of buying the first book I had bought the rest of the series and had already finished all of them! Yeah it's a good series. I find my self missing the characters now that I've finished the books.
"Pleased as pie"
I was a little afraid to buy this book after reading all the comments about the narrator but was very pleasantly surprised. I'm a BIG LKH fan but I have been disappointed with the last few books of both series because it seemed like there was nothing more than seen after seen with the main character hopping into bed for one more sexual encounter, with what felt like very little meat between (sorry for the pun). But this one had a story line and a lot less sex. I enjoyed the narrator actually more than the other; she has a very pleasant voice and had a good pace. The narrator of the other books tended to be to slow for me and I ended up listening to it sped up just to get the book to move along. This one I didn't have to do that which was nice.
