With The Blind Assassin, Atwood proves once again that she is one of the most talented, daring, and exciting writers of the time. Like The Handmaid's Tale, this Book Prize-winner is destined to become a classic.

I found this book another good example of the author's ability to keep you interested in her writing. After listening to the Handmaiden I began reading as many of her books as possible and found the author to be a wonderful writer. Unlike Danielle Steele I have yet to tire of her.

This is the most distinguished novel that has come out of South Africa in the 20th century, and it is one of the most important novels of the modern era. Cry, the Beloved Country is in some ways a sad book; it is an indictment of a social system that drives native races into resentment and crime; it is a story of Fate, as inevitable, as relentless, as anything of Thomas Hardy's. Beautifully wrought with high poetic compassion, Cry, the Beloved Country is more than just a story, it is a profound experience of the human spirit.

Great insight into South Africa. Nice parellel between a white man and a black man faced with difficult times. Well written.

The long-awaited new legal thriller from John Grisham is here. In The Summons, law professor Ray Atlee and his black-sheep brother are called home by their ailing father, the Judge, for a family meeting that never takes place. The Judge dies too soon, and in doing so leaves behind a shocking secret known only to Ray. And perhaps someone else.

Yes, I am prejudiced about John Grishom...but then I have read most of his books. This book is no different than any of his other writings as far as ability to hold your interest and great writing. Loved it. You will not go wrong in reading this book.

Three Junes is a vividly textured symphonic novel set on both sides of the Atlantic during three fateful summers in the lives of a Scottish family. Three Junes "almost threatens to burst with all the life it contains...extraordinary," says Michael Cunningham, author of The Hours.

High school all-American Neely Crenshaw was the best quarterback to play for the Messina Spartans. 15 years have gone by since those glory days, and Neely has come home to Messina to bury Coach Eddie Rake, the man who molded the Spartans into a football dynasty. Now, as Coach Rake's "boys" sit in the bleachers waiting for the dimming field lights to signal his passing, they replay the old games, relive the old glories, and try to decide once and for all whether they love Eddie Rake – or hate him.

    Patti says: "Great listen!"

I have read almost all of John Grisham's books. I have never had one disappoint me yet. When I decided on bleachers I was a bit apprehensive since I am not a sports fan and do not football at all!!
The first plus was that John read the book and the second that as usual it was so well written. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys the psychology of human behavior.

At the core of this book is an appalling double murder committed by two Mormon Fundamentalist brothers, Ron and Dan Lafferty, who insist they received a revelation from God commanding them to kill their blameless victims. Weaving the story of the Lafferty brothers and their fanatical brethren with a clear-eyed look at Mormonism's violent past, Krakauer examines the underbelly of the most successful homegrown faith in the United States, and finds a distinctly American brand of religious extremism.

Craig Hansen says: "Not bad, but a bit biased"

Gave the reader a new perspective and understanding of Mormons. As a non-mormon I had no real understanding of Mormon history. Tying current events (Smart abduction) with past events in the Mormon church was interesting. Interesting the manner in which the author goes back and forth in time.

Lily Owens has shaped her entire life around one devastating memory - the day her mother was killed. I really enjoyed reading this book. The ending brought the book full circle and you gained a greater understanding of the character. A disability can be disabling but in this case the character struggled to overcome it and succeeded. Well written.
