"i love this series but..."
This is the funniest series of books i have ever read. Tim Dorsey is about the only author to get me to laugh out loud while listening. I started this series randomly by checking them out from the library so i had to just get what i could and started with much later books, and i have to say that i enjoy the later books in this series much more. in this book Serge is very simular to the people he kills in later books for their behavior so that kind of confused me. The ending of this book also left me feeling kind of unsatisfied. even tho all of the books kind of play off of each other, the endings usually tie up all of the loose ends of that particular book, but this one left too many questions
"I don't know"
you have to listen to this one of course because it's the end of the trilogy, you have to know how it ends. the first book i loved, the second book was way too much like the first, but i have mixed feelings about this last one. the story line its self was good. everything was put together fairly well, but this book brought in the immaturity i had feared in a teen series about such an intense topic. This one made me truly sick of Katniss for a lot more of the book then i would have liked. i feel like the author robbed Katniss of her dignity by making her react to choices and decisions with such a short sighted and immature attitude. it would be typical is the average teenager but with everything Katniss went through in the first two books would have given her a much greater grasp of reality and what had to be done. also not crazy about the ending, it felt kind of cut short and unfinished.
"Deja vu"
This was pretty good of course, but i sort of feel like this book was unnecessary. I was shocked how similar this one was to the first. the first 3/4 of this book should have been a few chapters, and spent the rest of the time on new material. overall i enjoyed it, but i do feel a little cheated
"Definitely worth your time"
i didn't think i would love this series for the sole fact that i thought it would be toned down too much since it is a teen series. i am not saying that i want children killing each other to be very graphic, but when you decide to go with the basic premis that you are going to put kids in an arena to fight to the death then you can't sugar coat it too much and still have a book that makes any sense. i have to say that this book was not toned down at all; i don't think it's really a teen book other then the fact that the characters are mostly teens. it was well written and keeps you glued to your earbuds though.
"keep this in mind"
This is an excellent book that i listen to over and over again. It could be that I believe this scenario is very possible, even inevitable, due to the treasury operating on a deficit system along with the current political values of washington, but i love everything about this book. it is enjoyable simply as a novel, but you have to remember that this is a survival guide written in the form of a novel. That is why some people don't enjoy it as much because there are so many details of supplies, and how to do certain things to survive. I have a physical copy of this book as well just for reference because it is such a good guide. as long as you don't mind learning some stuff along the way then there is no reason not to enjoy this book.
