In one bloody night, three of Washington’s most powerful politicians are executed with surgical precision. Their assassins then deliver a shocking ultimatum to the American government: set aside partisan politics and restore power to the people. No one, they warn, is out of their reach—not even the president. A joint FBI-CIA task force reveals the killers are elite military commandos, but no one knows exactly who they are or when they will strike next.

It's springtime in Styria. And that means war. There have been nineteen years of blood. The ruthless Grand Duke Orso is locked in a vicious struggle with the squabbling League of Eight, and between them they have bled the land white. While armies march, heads roll, and cities burn, behind the scenes bankers, priests, and older, darker powers play a deadly game to choose who will be king.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I really do not know. There are similarities with the previous three books, but I find the characters less engaging. The Bloody Nine's character from the get go was much more appealing to me than Shivers in this volume. Also, there were too many unnecessary crude references in this book. The first three books had a seasoning of grit, this book's main course was grit.

Has Best Served Cold turned you off from other books in this genre?

It's very close to doing so. As stated above, the first three books were a little gritty. But this books was over the top. I love this author and think he is a nature and purchased the first three one after the other, as fast as I could. They were great. I am very hesitant to purchase the subsequent books as I am afraid that it will be more of the same.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator did not detract, although I have heard better.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Disappointment

    Any additional comments?

none. I just wish there were more along the lines of his first three.
