Upon her father's death, beautiful, headstrong Lady Clare knew that she must wed, for the protection of the Isle of Desire now fell to her. Yet when her guardian's choice of prospective husband rode through her castle gates, she felt utterly betrayed. All sinewy muscle and savage steel, Sir Gareth of Wyckmere was not the poet she'd requested but a fearsome knight whose only interest was in war.

I have read/listened to several Amanda Quick books and always enjoy them. This is is my favorite so far. I love both of the characters and the position they find themselves in. The story line was great and kept my attention. I didn't want to stop listening and finished the book in a day and a half.

The narration was good. Flosnik has done several books I have listened too and generally does a very good job. Sometimes she lays on the drama a little heavy, but I would much rather have that than a flat performance. This was one of her best performances.

Unable to bear the shame of returning to a family that believes her dead or to abandon others at the keep to an imposing new laird, Genevieve opts for the peaceful life of an abbess. But Bowen's rugged sensuality stirs something deep inside her that longs to be awakened by his patient, gentle caress - something warm, wicked, and tempting.

This book started off really well with quite a bit of drama and tension. I didn't want to stop listening until about half way through. The story suddenly became stagnant and didn't seem to go anywhere. I had to make myself finish it. I really wish Maya Banks had done something with the last half, it could have been an excellent book.

This book was okay, but not as good as the other books in the series. I like the two main characters well enough. However, the story line was pretty bland and uneventful. This narrator was okay, but there were a couple of quirks that got on my nerves occasionally. I'll continue to read the series, though (assuming more books come out).

It’s Gin Blanco's party - and you’ll cry if she wants you to. Against her better judgment, Gin is coerced into attending a high-society gala with the rest of Ashland's elite underworld. On display: the priceless art collection of her deceased nemesis, Mab Monroe, and an excess of crime-boss swagger. While not comfortable in her fancy attire, Gin gets vastly more interested in the evening’s events when a group of thieves bursts in and tries to seize the valuable, dangerous gems.

Though this isn't my favorite book in the series, it was nice to come across a change. Sometimes when there are a multitude of books in a series, they can all start to run together and follow the same patterns. This book had a completely different approach to the plot and foes. I thought I might get bored with the whole story happening at one event in the course of an evening, but it managed to keep my attention and interest. I'm glad the "bad guy" wasn't just another elemental trying to move in and take over the city or get revenge on Gin. I'm also glad there was a little bit of a break in the plot between Gin and her sister. I agree with the other reviewers in that I dislike Owen greatly and hope she moves on in books to come.

There was nothing really wrong with the book, but there was nothing really great about it. The characters were fine, the plot was fine, there was sufficient action, and it wasn't boring. However, there was nothing exceptional about it. I didn't love it and I probably won't remember it past today. It seems like something was missing. Maybe tension and drama, as well as some character development.

The narrator did a great job and probably helped the book by really bringing the characters to life.

There were several aspects of this book that I didn't care for. My main issue was the overwhelming number of side stories that were going on throughout. It was like the book had ADHD or something. By the time the book returned to the main story, I had forgotten what was going on.

My second issue was the weak story line between Blay and Quinn. I just don't think the two characters were strong enough to have their own book. It isn't the m/m that I had a problem with, but the lack of depth of the characters. I personally think Blay is extremely bland, boring, and has no personality.

I couldn't really connect with this book at all, maybe it was the inability to relate to the m/m romance. I think Ward handled the issue with delicacy and applaud her efforts. However, I just found this book lacking in so many ways for my personal tastes.

I don't think this book was as bad as some of the reviews, it is just meant for a much younger reader. An aspect of the book that was both a pro and a con was that there was a lot of action and the characters moved from one emergency to another. It kept the book moving forward, but there was almost too much of it. The characters were pretty unique and each had their own personality, something brought out very well by the narrator.

If I had a teenage daughter, I would recommend the book to her. It was just a little too young for me personally, but I can't fault the author or book because I chose to read a YA story.

Judith Hampton was as beautiful as she was proud and loyal. Her dear Scottish friend from childhood was about to give birth, and Judith had promised to be at her side. But there was another reason for the journey from her bleak English home to the Highlands: to meet the father she had never known, the Laird Maclean. Nothing prepared her, however, for the sight of the Scottish barbarian who was to escort her into his land...Iain Maitland, laird of his clan, a man more powerfully compelling than any she had ever encountered.

This is my favorite book by Julie Garwood. I loved all of the characters and the story line. What made this book even better was the wonderful narration. Duerden did a great job on the 2 main characters' voices. She gave Iain Maitland a sexy little drawl when he spoke to Judith. The characters often whispered in this book and the narrator did an exceptional job in bringing that out and giving it emotion.

I love this series! Mercy Thompson is one of my favorite characters out of the many series I keep up with. She is strong and independent without being overly aggressive or defensive. I love the way Briggs continues to let Mercy evolve and grow. That was especially apparent in this book, which showcased Mercy's abilities. I also really like the supporting characters in the books. Many of them made appearances and had bigger roles in this book.
