An excellent story, a sympathetic and intriguing main character, and authentic Australian atmosphere - well written and well read.
Always entertaining and well read! I do enjoy Maisie. If you haven't yet discovered her, give it a try, but do start with book one.
Oh my. If cheap, formulaic romance fiction is your preferred genre, then help yourself to this one. Maybe you can stand it. This one is definitely not for me. I tried. After all, I had spent a credit on it! I made it about halfway through but by that point, I was laughing out loud at situations and lines that were not meant to be funny. It was just so over the top. So ridiculous. The situations, the language, the salacious and totally unbelievable sex scenes - I just could not take any more. Be warned!
I have loved every one of Deborah Crombie's books since I read the first few in print some years ago. While I certainly have favorites, none have disappointed. But this latest, happily anticipated and awaited continuation of the story of Duncan and Gemma has satisfied in every way, way beyond expectations. The characters continue to develop in interesting ways, and this particular story segment is timely and well crafted. I find myself so enjoying the story that I want to hurry along, and at the same time I want to go slowly, holding off on completing the story and savoring every part. Sweet dilemma.
Perhaps because this third in the trilogy related events that are lodged in my memory, I found it the most engaging of the three books. Actually, I enjoyed the entire trilogy. This one I found provided an account of the major events of the last half of the 20th Century that was made more interesting because of the varying perspectives from characters scattered around the various countries involved. Fascinating way to look at history.
I hesitate to put any book at the top of my list because that spot changes often. An amazing book today may be eclipsed by time and other experiences in the future. But this small book certainly has earned a place near the top.
What book lover won't appreciate a book that is so much about enjoying good books? What parent won't appreciate a story that is so much about what parenting means? What lover won't appreciate a story about the deep and enduring nature of mature love? I promise you will enjoy listening to this one if you are any of the above.
A friend who is a man with whom I often share book notes placed this near the top of his list also. Universal appeal. Give it a go.
I am currently in lesson 21, but I decided to write the review for lessons 1-5 since this is where beginners begin!
A year of Spanish in college years ago and a number of sessions with Coffee Break Spanish did not provide me with the useful knowledge that just the first 20 lessons with Pimsleur have provided. I recommend giving it a try if you want to learn some conversational Spanish that you might actually use at some time. I am searching out every Spanish speaker I can find to practice on. What fun!
I love the period piece aspects; I love the characters; I love the stories. Perhaps not deep but always interesting! This part of the story serves well as an engaging and enjoyable "read."
Do not think of this book as a romance. Romance there is, but so much more. I classify it as imminently readable historical fiction. No matter what the classification, the story is intriguing, the writing first rate, and this production enhances an already enjoyable experience. A realistic depiction of 18th Century Scotland seen through the eyes and sensibilities of a 20th Century narrator makes for a fascinating read.
The story, the characters, the settings - all enjoyable. I am happy to have found a new series. I only hope the rest I've up to this one. If so, I anticipate many hours of pleasant listening.
I love this series. The characters are real people - just more interesting than any I know. The stories have a ring of truth. Fascinating stories, but the continuing story of these people I really like is the best part of all. Start at the beginning of the series and enjoy them all. Can't wait for another!
