The publishers summary was a bit misleading.so if you want a break down on what the book is about without any details here you go.
This is not a book about the first formic war. This is a book about people before the war. 99% of the book is about space miners. 1% is about military people on earth.
They should change the tittle to something else and add Book 1
Another great book by R.A. Salvatore. This addition to the series introduces a few more characters that will play major roles in future novels. Absolutely full of the swirling blades of Drizzt, and many moments where you may find your self cheering for Companions of the hall, along with some comedy thrown in. In short great great great if you read the first 2 or 5 books your probably already all in, but if you haven't read them I recommend reading Homeland , Exile, Sojourn, The Crystal Shard, Streams of Silver, in that order before you read this one, unless you want to skip to the camel punching then get this one first.
Legacy is the seventh book of the Drizzt Saga and the first of the Legacy of the Drow Series. All the previous stories in the saga are great but it wasn't until this series that the conflicts took battles to an epic scale. As always the action sequences are amazing and the suspense will keep you on edge. The cast of characters is incredibly diverse and the narrator does a tremendous job giving each one their own voice. This is Sherlock Holmes meets The Return Of The King. Just remember if you skip the previous novels you may feel a little lost at first but Salvatore does a pretty good job in bringing people up to speed. And fortunately despite only having this book Legacy on preorder, audible is offering the complete series for sale on the day it was released.
I recommend the whole series for anyone interested in books that take place in fantasy settings from age 8+, it does have graphic fight sequences but it lacks the gorey details.
After reading the first 24 books in the series getting the 25th was a no brainer. After the appropriately gloomy Neverwinter series this new addition to the series is pleasantly upbeat. The plot is incredibly original and I think the book is a great edition to the series and I will be looking forward to the release of the next one.
There is a problem with this book that I don't like, one of the characters acts in ways that is out of sync with everything else written about them. And while I was listening I kept thinking that it didn't make any sense dispite Salvatore's explanations for the behavior. And I get characters and authors change over time but this kind of seemed unrealistic even for a series that once had a rhyming dwarf in it. I also skipped all of the monolauges in between the Acts of the books because they have been over the top melo drama for a while now or always... probably always. Fictional violence is always the best way to solve fictional problems.
If you haven't read any books from the other series concerning this cast of characters you will be lost. This is the 25th book of the main series and the 27th if you include the parallel series that stems from servant of the shard. While the author does have a few reminders of what happened before scattered around the book it is not nearly enough. But this is an excellent series and the old books are being converted to audio. Start with Homeland, it is great and for the most part they all are. Just remember you're aloud to ship ahead chapters because Salvatore has always ended chapters in cliff hangers only to be followed by three chapters divoted to people on the other side of the world.
If you have been avoiding The Dark Elf series because it's too popular. I strongly recommend 2666 by Roberto Bolaño. 2666 is an absolutely horrible book that no one likes, because it is horrible.
This is a Must Listen. This book is very much worth $45.50 and worth way more than a credit. If you haven't read The Passage buy it, hear it, love it and come back here. Both Novels are wonderfully written and filled with fantastic characters and stories. They are both filled with excitement, some sadness/madness, and a few scoot to the edge of your seat jump up and whoop moments. And when it isn't all tension it's like gravity.
The main plots of the series stop moving forward with this book. Nothing is bad and nothing is great about it, It lacks excitement and intrigue. This is the calm before the storm, just like much of A dance with dragons. So together you will have sixty something hours of calm. I think it is a waste of credits in the end, so I would just get it another way if possible. It is not a book that people will likely reread, I usually listen to most of the books I get at least 3 times some more than 10 but I will never go through this one again.
Did I get the same book as everyone else? This book is not a good audio book. Scott Brick cant make this fun. If you want to feel smart because you read an acclaimed master piece with no entertainment value then this is the book for you. This book is just to dry to be endured.
In print it may be fantastic but as audio it is a very wretched thing.
If you are a fan of the shadow series, this is a must read. But it is not the best short story Card has written. I think it needed more Bean, and it created more questions than it answered. Probably for more $ in the future. I almost feel like boycotting the Enders game prequel and every other book Card writes that isn't a Children Of The Mind Sequal. It's been 16 years, not very nice of Mr.Card to keep us all waiting so very long.
This is a Dink story. Ender is around but he is not the main figure. If you are new to the Enderverse Read Enders Game and all the other Ender books first and then shadow series. and then first meetings and then get this. This is a good short story but the others are just much better.
If you were turned off by Axis don't worry this is better. Spend the credit and find out how it all ends.
