"Important Book"
The story is so close to the bone for anyone who has a child serving in the Israeli Army and this book really deserves 5 stars. This book takes you into the soul of present day Israel.
Unfortunately, the narrator, who otherwise reads beautifully, mangles almost every Hebrew phrase or name place. This was so aggravating and made it impossible to follow the story. I was unable to finish listening to this book.
"Very well written"
Everyone has heard and read about Henry VIII. But his father, Henry VII???
I certainly knew very little before listening to this book but know much more now. Thomas Penn's magnificently written biography is a magnificent, interesting all encompassing read. Simon Vance, once again, is an outstanding narrator.
This is a must if history interests you.
"An audible credit thrown down the drain!"
One of the few times in over a decade of listening to Audible, that I felt that I had wasted my money.
"A Wonderfully Nuanced Book"
I think that Hilary Mantel is an wonderful author. Her story telling; her use of language; her ability to bring to life a far away period of time weaves a literary spell. I wish the book had been twice as long!!
Now I need to wait for her to write/complete the final book in this triology.
The England of Hilary Mantel is totalitarian state. Simon Vance, one of my favorite readers, reads this book beautifully but, all the same, his voice lacks the necessary malevolence that the narrator of Wolf Hall was able to achieve.
I hope that Audible will soon bring Hilary Mantel's other books into their library.
"Red herrings all the way to the very end"
Jo Nesbo has written an excellent book that kept me guessing all the way. The translation is fluent and the narration is perfect. I was sorry when the book finished.
Highly, highly recommended!
"A required book for history buffs."
You may, or may not, agree with everything that the late Tony Judt wrote but this book is an incredible tour de force.
Monumental in length - 43 hours in the narration and beautifully read - this book is a must.
"Heart warming"
This is a pleasant, heartwarming book with a happy end. All you need to do is curl up in front of the fire and enjoy a well narrated story.
"A great read!"
I bought this book sight unseen because of the author. It is well worth the read. I have never been to the Wild West but the excellently nuanced narration by Mark Bramhall ” took” me there. Highly recommended.
"Excellent"
This is an excellent history and highly recommended to anyone with an interest in the 2nd world war. The narrator is outstanding and the book flows. I could not ” put it down”.
"Exceptionally good."
Beautifully written. The interlaced plots draw the reader in until it is almost impossible to "put" this book down. The narrator is exceptionally good.
