As much as I enjoyed the story, the narration was very distracting and I felt like stopping after about an hour. Glad I stuck it out.
I like the relationships from Nora Roberts if not the sex and language. Her characters appeal to me. Did not care for narrator. Male narrators need to find a way to read female characters without sounding so silly. These female leads were not silly, but they felt that way from this reader. But I really enjoyed the story and getting the next part immediately.
The story: Marry me? I can't marry you. Over and over and over ....
I love a good romance but there has to be action to the story as well. This was too much thinking, discussing, agonizing . . . and I did not connect with the heroine's reason to stay away.
I dislike the vampire/werewolf series and was hesitant about this one. But there are all sorts of creatures and I loved that. Dragon, griffin, fairy, gargoyle, etc. The "world-building" is not so detailed as to annoy like so many of them. I enjoyed from page 1. The romance is steamy and enjoyable. The f-bomb is annoying, and may turn some romance readers off. I loved the characters (who doesn't want a dragon; women are strong). Great series. Give it a try.
I think Ian's story is the best romance ever; I think Elliot's story was just slightly #2. But the ick factor of Daniel's story was just too much. I finished it thinking it had to eventually have something I would enjoy. It did not. Sorry.
Makes the girl voices sound silly.
Tries to include humor in exactly the wrong spots, and it never works. Actively disliked the ending to the second book. Deleted the third.
I usually LOVE Kleypas. I liked the hero but I just couldn't care about the heroine. I know I was supposed to feel sorry for what had happened to her but something about her behavior kept me from caring. Not my favorite.
Another fun romance from Elizabeth Hoyt. The reader makes every man in the book sound like an idiot so you have to get used to that at the beginning and then just enjoy the story. LOVE this series! Get the other reader back for the next book.
I enjoyed every bit of this series. Third is the best, the second the weakest. And this one, the first one, starts it all off great. Those reviewers that want more realism historically . . read nonfiction. I want to have fun, I want the hero and heroine to fall quickly. Hoyt's characters are unusual but still sexy. And there is none of that "mistaken understandings" that part the couple so stupidly. I had fun listening.
Good hero. Good storyline. Not near enough romance. I felt like the author was in a hurry to finish writing it so she could get to the next one. I adore Amanda Quick novels. There just wasn't the emotion in this one I have come to expect.
I liked the hero and the heroine. Liked the storyline. Romance felt unemotional or dull. Not sure what was off with the romance. It was OK.
