If you want to learn about Philosophy or have had a modest introduction to one or two philosophers you are likely to appreciate this book. Its emphasis is undoubtedly on ancient greek philosophy rather than modern philosophy. However it was no small task to assemble even what was in here. The narrator is also excellent and a pleasure to listen to. The only criticism I have is that the author takes an attitude that we now know all there is to be known, and it becomes painfully obvious from listening to this book that there is a lot left to learn.
If you've read all the books up until here you clearly love these characters. And you will get plenty of your fill here, although the book could stand to be even longer. There's still plenty of doors left open for more books to be written so this isn't the end of the love affair either.
All in all, spending time with the characters is more gratifying than the overall plot of the book, but Card wrote himself into a corner with the Ender series, and he is beyond contradicting himself, so we know how it's all going to end anyhow - at least for Peter Wiggin.
I can't wait for the next one.
A classic piece of science-fiction that really captures the spirit of the day and age when it was written. If you want to know where the hippies came from, you might conclude Mars was a big influence.
The narrator is absolutely superb.
If these are the best speeches of all time then public speaking should be banned. Moreover, the readers here are so mellowdramatic and so overact the parts that is nearly comedic. Listen to the sample before buying and you will see.
I couldn't put this audiobook down and looked for every opportunity to get a listen in. A classic book about individual spirit vs the masses. The reader brings the characters to life while being neither boring nor cheeky. Five stars.
