Joins us for a cup of tea, won't you? Katharine Hepburn beckons us into her Connecticut home for a cozy chat and an intimate look at the legend, and the woman behind the legend. Based on the critically acclaimed New York production, the independent, intelligent, feisty Hepburn comes alive once again when Kate Mulgrew, of Star Trek: Voyager fame, slips deftly into the voice and being of the famous actress.

    "Fabulous!"

I can not remember when I have enjoyed a narrative more! Having been a lifelong Hepburn fan I was expecting the usual information. What a surprise! Kate does Kate very well and captured that famous spunk! The insights gleaned here make it much easier to understand why Miss Hepburn did what she did through her never a dull moment life.
Don't hesitate to get this one...it is one in a million!

A nation sits at the brink of war, a city if fraught with conspiracy. It's 1935 in East Africa. In Cairo, at the Cataract Café, they gather: professional hunter Anton Rider, his estranged wife and her Italian lover, the pampered American twins Bernadette and Harriet Mills, an English lord down on his luck, a German freebooter who has stolen a fortune in silver from the Italian army. Under the knowing eye of the Goan dwarf and café proprietor Olivio Alevado, they lay plots and toast alliances.

Terry A. Austin says: "Unable to listen"
"Promises an exciting sequel but falls short."

Once again, the narrator brings down the book.
The continuation of the Anton Rider story leaves out a lot of the intervening years after The White Rhino and brings the reader to other parts of Africa, a war, incredible violence and a lot more of the 'soft porn'.
While I enjoy the stories I do find the narration incredibly difficult to listen to. I thought I would get used to it but, not so much.....

As they follow the trail, the Fargos will find themselves pitted against a thieving group of treasure hunters.

Would you listen to The Tombs again? Why?

Yes, I WILL listen to it again just to make sure I haven't missed anything.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, as all of Mr. Cussler's books do. This one went to many exotic locations with great descriptions and lots of history!

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Mr. Brick is a very talented narrator. He shows just enough emotion and manages the 'speed' to the events taking place.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but it is a tad too long for that, ha!

    Any additional comments?

    Love the Fargos...waiting for more!

The Great War has ended, tragically for many; but for some more fortunate, East Africa holds the prospect of vast estates, fabulous wealth, and limitless opportunity in this powerful, grandly crafted novel of the natural and human perils that await pioneers in a promised land.

Would you try another book from Bartle Bull and/or Fred Williams?

The story is compelling, the descriptions of Africa stirring and the characters well developed.
The narration, however, is tiring. Why would one choose to have such monotone with such a dramatic setting and story line?
    A real shame.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

    Predictable.

What didn’t you like about Fred Williams’s performance?

    Boring, monotone, over enunciated.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I enjoyed the story and would have really enjoyed it more with a different narrator.

    Any additional comments?

Try this series again with a different narrator.
