I generally finish every book I download. Could not get through this one. Monotone recitation of what amounts to a laundry list of what North Koreans don't have. I tried skipping ahead to see if it would improve, but all I missed was page 2 of the shopping list.
It raises some good points and cites some excellent examples. If it ended in 5 hrs instead of 10 hrs I would have given it 4-5 stars, but when you continue to drone on about the same thing for the additional time, it subtracts from the book rather than adds to it. Strange how that works.
The thing I liked least was when the author brought her personal politics into it. I guess she has the right, heck it's her book , but that's not what the book was supposed to be about or what I choose to listen to. Fortunately it was minimal.
If you want to listen to whining child for hours on end, this is the book for you. I can sum up the first 2hrs, after that I stuck a fork in my ear to end the pain. Poppa I'm scared, it's ok, Pappa I'm hungry, it's ok. Pappa this pappa that, it's ok it's ok (truth is it's not ok). Unfathomable how anyone gave this a good rating. Maybe it get's better later, couldn't get worse. Gotta give anyone who listened to the whole thing credit for their perserverance.
Jesus freak goes pan handling. There I just saved you wasted hours.
I have listened to 100 titles or more. This bar none is the worst I have ever tried.
I got suckered into listening to this by the high reviews. No surprises, no insights. Gangs sell drugs, Duh ya think?
Sorry I wasted so much time on this. It received such high reviews I kept hoping it would get better. All the author does is repeat endlessly that you can't recognize the sociopath. She does give such sage advice as avoid people who lie to you, well duh.
Don't know what the others saw in this.
I bought this book for all the good reviews it received. However, I was disappointed. It was not bad, just not good either and didn't live up to the ratings. The story line was very disjointed and without a real focus. Way too long, including fictious dialog that was totally unnecessary and made it tedious at times.
How in God's name did this get such good reviews? Horrible. I admit I had to stop at the 3rd step when Dyer advocated running in hallways in hotels. According to Dyer people who don't like this behavior are (according to him) depreciators and those who do are appreciators. I for one think running belongs in the gym or outside. I consider it common sense and common courtesy, those of you who don't will love this book.
if you listen you will realize justabook is high praise. I wish I could give it six stars. This is the most enjoyable listen of any of the books I have listened to (at least 20). I actually began to look forward to my commute so that I could hear more of the story (seriously). This is the only audiobook where I feel compelled to buy the hard cover. I want to keep it and savor it again. Don't be intimidated by the length, there are very few minutes that are not a delight. There are some things you want to last.
One of the most disappointing books I have listened to. Just stumbled onto the title and it sounded interesting, it was downhill from there. Boring, repetitious. Boring, repetitious. Boring, repetitious. Boring, repetitious. Get the point yet?
