We will soon be able to meet and exceed the basic needs of every man, woman, and child on the planet. Abundance for all is within our grasp. This bold, contrarian view, backed up by exhaustive research, introduces our near-term future, where exponentially growing technologies and three other powerful forces are conspiring to better the lives of billions of people. This book is an antidote to pessimism by tech-entrepreneur-turned-philanthropist Peter H. Diamandis and award-winning science writer Steven Kotler.

I like the direct, practical solutions to seemingly intractable problems presented here. While I had heard of many of these things, I was surprised to see how far along the technology had moved. TED presenters are everywhere and fleshing out the personalities a bit was refreshing and enlightening. If you like Sci-Fi this feels like nirvanna. If you like practicality, there are so many deep insights and realized solutions. I love this book.

In a time long forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons off balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. As the cold returns, sinister forces are massing beyond the protective wall of the kingdom of Winterfell. To the south, the king's powers are failing, with his most trusted advisor mysteriously dead and enemies emerging from the throne's shadow.

Everyone-EVERYONE,. told me how wonderful this series is. I swear someday I'm going to make it all the way through, but I started it 4 seperate times now...and I just never got into it. It's me, I'm sure it's me. I just find the first hour or 3 kind of uninteresting. I'm sure it's a character flaw on my part. The performance seems verygood but the story at least early on isn't my cup of tea - so to speak. Sometime when I have a long drive ahead of me I'll make myself try again. But for now, I'm not recommending it-purely out of ignorance.

Neal Stephenson, "the hottest science fiction writer in America", takes science fiction to dazzling new levels. The Diamond Age is a stunning tale; set in 21st-century Shanghai, it is the story of what happens what a state-of-the-art interactive device falls into the hands of a street urchin named Nell. Her life, and the entire future of humanity, is about to be decoded and reprogrammed.

This is a terrific book. It got my undivided attention as soon as that fellow had a gun installed in his head. I love a book that let's the reader connect the dots without stating the relationship of said dots. The author does that incredibly well. Some of the best moments of this book are between the lines. I treasure those moments. This book went lots of places I never expected. I am really glad I read it.

In the summer of 1953, two 11-year-old boys - best friends - are playing in a Little League baseball game in Gravesend, New Hampshire. One of the boys hits a foul ball that kills the other boy's mother. The boy who hits the ball doesn't believe in accidents; Owen Meany believes he is God's instrument. What happens to Owen, after that 1953 foul ball, is extraordinary and terrifying.

I liked this book-I never loved this book. I liked the story and narration, I liked the writing and underlying ideas. If it was half as long it wouldn't have been so deep and involved but would have advanced the story. I think that would have hurt the writer's vision. Stll, for me, I got deep into it and prayed for it to be over. I feel a bit bad about that. It was good, but not my style. It superficially presents one burning question and in the end answers it. That was what got me and held me til the end. Had it not intrigued me I might well have given up. As you see, I am conflicted. I liked it. I didn't like it's length. I'm sure I'm just not literate enough to have been deeply involved throughout. I could hear the first couple hours and the last couple and get about as much--but that's me. I liked it- I never loved it. Now I know.

Richard Forthrast created T’Rain, a multibillion-dollar, massively multiplayer online role-playing game. But T’Rain’s success has also made it a target. The ethereal words of the great thinker Omar Khayyam will echo through time eternal. The poet's profound and magical thoughts will blend into your consciousness and you will be transported into a different realm. David Davies captures the essence of this unusual poem in a remarkable reading.

This was always something I knew existed- but nothing about -save Rocky & Bullwinkle's "Ruby Yacht". It's classic for a reason. It's a long poem, apparently by a Muslim, that positively revels in the joys of Drink and bemoans the shortness of life. It is full of quoteworthy sayings for fancy bar/restaraunt walls. It's really really short, but a delight.
