Will Robie may have just made the first - and last - mistake of his career.... It begins with a hit gone wrong. Robie is dispatched to eliminate a target unusually close to home in Washington, D.C. But something about this mission doesn't seem right to Robie, and he does the unthinkable: He refuses to kill. Now, Robie becomes a target himself and must escape from his own people.

Fleeing the scene, Robie crosses paths with a wayward teenage girl, a 14-year-old runaway from a foster home. But she isn't an ordinary runaway....

Where does The Innocent rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    4 out of 5

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

No way I figured it out ahead of the explanation.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I always like this reader. The sound effects were just distracting.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Finding out the father. Don't want to give anything away.

    Any additional comments?

Please leave out the sounds effects in future books.

The year is 2008 and Samantha Kofer's career at a huge Wall Street law firm is on the fast track - until the recession hits and she gets downsized, furloughed, escorted out of the building. Samantha, though, is one of the "lucky" associates. She's offered an opportunity to work at a legal aid clinic for one year without pay, after which there would be a slim chance that she'd get her old job back. In a matter of days Samantha moves from Manhattan to Brady, Virginia, population 2,200, in the heart of Appalachia, a part of the world she has only read about.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this to everyone. Mr. Grisham does another wonderful job of holding ones interest and bringing the characters to life. I have witnessed first hand the slowly ebbing lives of Black Lung victims. This is something that needs to be brought to the attention of the country, not just in the coal areas.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jeff was my favorite. He was loyal, just devious enough to get the job done and not just another country hick.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I loved it when the original will arrived in the mail.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The description of how Black Lung killed Maddie's father, then to associate it with the living client who continued to work after denial of benefits.

    Any additional comments?

Mr. Grisham needed to communicate that an autopsy be done even after a suicide. It is the only indisputable proof of the disease that would award benefits to the widow and children even after the miner's death. That case was a dangling thread that should have been completed.

The night after the fourth of July, Layton Carlson, Jr., of Red Wing, Minnesota, finally got lucky. And unlucky.

He’d picked the perfect spot to lose his virginity to his girlfriend, an abandoned farmyard in the middle of cornfields: nice, private, and quiet. The only problem was...something smelled bad - like, really bad. He mentioned it to a county deputy he knew, and when the cop took a look, he found a body stuffed down a cistern. And then another, and another. By the time Lucas Davenport was called in, the police were up to 15 bodies and counting.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Another excellent book from this author. I like that Ferrone always narrates and that they don't use lots of sound effects. It is good to see that he is slowly working his daughter into a role for future books.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Bone, almost seemed able to carry out the missions.

What does Richard Ferrone bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

When I do read, I still hear his voice doing the narration.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    No.
