It's an easy read and typical chick lit. The narrator was not bad and that made the book more pleasurable.

This is the first abridged book I have purchased and I found it a waste of money. It was confusing and the only thing that made me finish it was that the narrator was great and that I have to read this before I can read "Certain Girls", which is unabridged. I wish that I could have read the unabridged version of this book but it's unavailable.

Isabella, Mary, and Lauren are going to be bridesmaids in Kristi's wedding. On Sunday after Sunday, at bridal shower after bridal shower, they coo over toasters, eat tiny sandwiches, and drink mimosas. They're all happy for Kristi, but they do have the ups and downs of their own lives to cope with. Isabella is working at a mailing-list company, where she's extremely successful, and wildly unhappy. Mary is in love with a man who may never love any woman as much as he loves his mother. And Lauren, a waitress at a midtown bar, finds herself drawn to a man she's pretty sure she hates.

The story was good but I think the narrators "made" the book. It's typical chick lit but perhaps one star better than the most. I would recommend.

Although I found the book a little difficult to get into, it's well worth it. The narrator is excellent and the story, although a little difficult to get into at the beginning, is one of my favorite reads. I enjoyed it so much that I was sad when it ended. I highly recommend it. (Haven't seen movie, so can't compare)

Little else in life is as dangerous as fire jumping. Flying past towering pillars of smoke, parachuting down to the edge of an all-consuming blaze, shoveling and sawing for hours upon hours, days at a time, all to hold the line and push back against the raw power of Mother Nature. But there’s also little else as thrilling - at least to Rowan Tripp. The Missoula smoke jumpers are one of the most exclusive firefighting squads in the nation, and the job is in Rowan’s blood: her father is a legend in the field. She’s been fighting fires since her eighteenth birthday.

I just couldn't get into this book and never finished it. I found the narrator's voice to be very scripted -- to the point of being annoying. Listing to her voice was difficult so I eventually gave up. Won't listen to her again.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

I have nothing bad to say about this book and everything good to say about it. The narration is excellent and the book is extremely well written. If you are planning on seeing the movie, read the book first. It gives you far more insight to the characters than the movie does. I'm hoping for more from Kathryn Stockett.
