I've always wanted the inside story of the botched Iran hostage rescue and now I've got it. This is a very fast paced and intense look at what it takes to become a Delta Force operator. I highly recommend this book.

I purchased this book after watching the first season of Longmire on TV. I know that television sometimes takes artistic license with a story but this book was very different from the show. That is a good thing as it is more entertaining and interesting. The character development is excellent and the story flows easily. Walt Longmire should have been born one hundred years earlier as should the Bear. The story takes a lot of turns and the ending will surprise you. I will be purchasing more titles from Mr. Johnson and I'm sure they will be as good as The Cold Dish.

This is the second book from Mr. Ambrose that I have read and it was as good as the first. I read Band of Brothers after watching the HBO mini-series and enjoyed it. Citizen Soldiers is another excellent read. It covers everything in the ETO from Normandy to Berlin. You'll learn things about the major players that you may not have known. I was drawn in from the start and it kept me interested to the end. It is heartbreaking to know how many men's lives were wasted through poor planning and execution of orders that were unnecessary. And how one generals decision cost the men countless unnecessary cases of frostbite and trench foot through lack of proper equipment. If you enjoyed Band of Brothers you will also enjoy Citizen Soldiers. I just purchased Wild Blue by Mr. Ambrose and I expect it will be as good as this book.

Men in Green Faces kept me interested throughout the entire book. There is not a lot of back story and needless information about the characters to bog you down. It is action from the start and never slows down. It was refreshing to read a novel about the Vietnam war that isn't full of drug use and the liberal slant that you get in books like platoon but being about a SEAL platoon I didn't expect that in the first place. The tactics and weaponry are accurate to the time period. I really enjoyed the characters and would recommend this book for your library.

I cannot say enough about Patrick O'brian's Aubrey/Maturin series. This is the best series of books I have ever read hands down. If you are thinking about reading it do, you won't regret it.The narrator I chose, Simon Vance, is one of, if not the best English narrators I've heard. His characters are all given a different voice that is believable and entertaining. Before buying the Simon Vance version I checked out Master and Commander at the local library and listened to Patrick Tull. I found him to be quite dull and lacking in good characterization. It was almost as if your boring old English butler was reading you the story because he has to. The friendship between Aubrey and Maturin is wonderfully developed and you feel as if you are there on the deck or in the cabin with them as they carry out their missions. All of the different seamen and other characters are consistant throughout the series. My only regret is that there were not more books to listen to. I would love for some of Aubrey and Maturin's early years to be chronicled so that I can have more background on where they are coming from in their respective views of the world. If you enjoyed Horatio Hornblower or the Sharpe series from Cornwell you will love the Aubrey/Maturin series from Patrick O'brian. Buy it and go to sea with Lucky Jack Aubrey!

This is a good action story about a late cold war era outbreak of war in Korea. The story is plausible and flows well. The narrator is a little too upbeat in his characterizations. Everybody kind of has a happy sound to their voice. He does a decent job of giving each character their own sound. I enjoy cold war era stories and was not disappointed with this Larry Bond title. If you enjoy Harold Coyle or Tom Clancy you should be happy with Larry Bond's Red Phoenix.

I really enjoyed this story. It was along the lines of We Were Soldiers Once, and Young. I have never been a fan of Dick Hill. Whatever he reads is Dick Hill reading the story. He is so slow at times I thought my download might have had a bug or error. Overall I enjoyed the story of intense combat in the latter days of the Vietnam war. If you can stand the monotone reading it is worth the price. Don't listen to Dick Hill while driving...

This is a great story about the rise of Karzai and how the U.S. special forces helped him to power. It's a bit of a different view of Karzai than what you may have read or seen on TV. Overall I enjoyed the story and the narrator.

I really enjoyed this story. You never hear about what these men go through on a daily basis on the news unless it puts them in a bad light. The story is about the ousting of the Taliban from Kandahar and how our special forces troops have to work with the local tribes to attain that goal. It is frustrating to think that they had accomplished it once and had to retake ground that the international allied troops wouldn't protect. The narration is great and the story is fast moving. Buy it!

I have really enjoyed Tom Clancy's last three collaborations. The new generation of characters blends well with the old timers. Mark Greaney is a good stand alone action thriller author as well. If you have enjoyed Tom Clancy's cold war era thrillers these books won't disappoint. When you've read these new stories try out Greaney's Gray Man series they are also hard to put down. I was a little put off by Phillips narration as it is a little monotone but he is by no means the worst I've heard and it doesn't hurt the story at all.

I am a Clancy addict, I freely admit. This book was so action packed and fast paced I could not stop listening. I listened to it for 10 hours at work and the 15 minute trip home. Some of Clancy's book get so detailed they kind of bog you down with information. There is some of that here but overall I think the duo of Greaney and Clancy is excellent. If you enjoy Clancy or Greaney you can't go wrong with this book. The narration by Phillips is excellent as well.
