I'm not sure who would enjoy this book. I just didn't get it.

I liked both Royce and Hadrian equally.

I can't recall the specific scene that was a favorite for me.

I did not have an extreme reaction to the book. I just looked forward to listening to it.

I wouldn't listen to it again.....because I don't tend to listen to books more than once. But this was a wonderful book with great character development and twists along the way.

There were two...one I could guess at before it actually unfolded...the other was a complete surprise.

She did a great job of differentiating the different voices for the characters. I do find the cockney accent (at least I think it was cockney) annoying after a while...but that's just me.

Characters are compelling, the story engaging and the narrator is excellent.

Kate Reading is one of my favorite narrators.

I admit I listen to audio books while doing other things and can occasionally loose the thread of a story....but this book was impossible for me to follow. I stuck with it to the end but wish I hadn't.

No, because I've listened to other books and loved them. I love Jim Butcher's books, George R. R. Martin, Robin Hobbs, etc.

Yes....the problem was the story.

I purchased this audio book on sale.....and now I know why it was on sale. The narration was so bad, it was nearly impossible to differentiate between characters. The attempt at Chinese accents hurt my ears it was so bad. Don't waste your time or money on this one.

James Lee Burke has done it again. You can't help but root for Clete and hope he finds happiness at some point. The characters seem so real, the violence all too real and the writing beautiful. Burke is a master storyteller.
