In Bradbury's unforgettable modern Gothic masterpiece, Something Wicked This Way Comes, something evil arrives in a small Midwestern town on the crest of the wind one autumn night. A "dark carnival" with frightening attractions and supernatural characters sets up stakes. It is up to two 13-year-old boys, James Nightshade and William Holloway, to figure out a way to save the souls of the town.

    Sarah says: "Ageless"
"well read, but long and sometimes creepy"
    Overall

This was read very well. Easy to listen to and hear. But it was long, some of the descriptions went on and on. It was a creepy book also. I don't like scary stories so this wasn't my thing.

The Virals are put to the ultimate test when they find a geocache containing an ornate puzzle box. Shelton decodes the cipher inside, only to find more tantalizing clues left by "The Gamemaster". A second, greater geocache is within reach - if the Virals are up to the challenge. But the hunt takes a dark turn when Tory locates the other box - a fake bomb, along with a sinister proposal from The Gamemaster. Now, the real game has begun: another bomb is out there - a real one - and the clock is ticking.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I love Kathy Reichs books. The premise of this story didn't seem realistic to me, but the story itself was very good. If I suspended belief in the fundamental story, the rest was great - a real page turner.

What would have made Elegance of the Hedgehog better?

Story has an interesting format: older woman and young girl expostulating on life. Voice acting was good. But I thought it was somewhat pretentious and I got bored.

Has Elegance of the Hedgehog turned you off from other books in this genre?

    Yes

However, these rich wives have a mutual secret: they've all had an affair with a man named Gary Eisenhower- and now he's blackmailing them for money.

  • 11-22-63: A Novel

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I enjoyed this story, but it was about 30 hours of listening. Good premise, great character development.
I felt several hours could have been edited out and would have helped the story move. My book club picked this book and most of us liked it. the 'readers' could skim some of the lengthy parts, which made it easier to get through.
    Stephen needs a stronger editor.

Would you recommend 11-22-63 to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes, but in book form, so they can skim some parts.

What about Craig Wasson’s performance did you like?

Excellent performance. He did a variety of voices, all different. Seemed to catch the character's in the voice. Great job.

Where does Sudden Mischief rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    Very good

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

interesting complex plot, I wasn't on the edge of my seat, but remained very interested

Did William Windom do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

He does a good spenser, but all the characters sound the same. I could not differentiate Spence from Hawk

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Kept me interested as I commuted and on my walks.

Big-time Boston hoodlum Julius Ventura wants to find his only daughter's missing husband - at least that's how he puts it to Spenser and Hawk, even though its pretty clear that Julius isn't telling the whole truth. Or maybe not any part of the truth. Something about the case appeals to Spenser's passion for justice, and he launches an odyssey that takes the tough-but-tender duo with their penchant for literary allusions into the netherworld of organized crime.

What made the experience of listening to Chance the most enjoyable?

Burt Reynolds was very good at the character voices. I was not expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Good plot. I am currently addicted to listening to my pal Spenser when i go walking. This kept me entertained.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    Did not have a favorite

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

These books are 'mind candy' for me. Fun, good writing, some suspense, entertaining. I laughed out loud at some of Spenser's cracks, but 'moved'?

Shaman-for-hire Eugenie Markham is the best at banishing entities trespassing in the mortal realm. But as the Thorn Land's queen, she's fast running out of ways to end the brutal war devastating her kingdom. Her only hope: the Iron Crown, a legendary object even the most powerful gentry fear.

    Story
What would have made Iron Crowned better?

I didn't read books 1 & 2, but the heroine was very impetuous and I didn't think someone who was so spontaneous could accomplish what she was doing. The book really went from sex scene to scene with a little action in between.

Has Iron Crowned turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No, Just this series

What didn’t you like about Jennifer Van Dyck’s performance?

She sounded really classy, but the character seemed very trashy - the voice didn't fit the character.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

If the journey and battles had been flushed out as much as the sex, I probably would have enjoyed it more

    Any additional comments?

Might be great for some readers, but I stopped listening 1/2 way through because I really did not care about the main character.

Would you consider the audio edition of Thin Air to be better than the print version?

I have really enjoyed Michael Pritchard's reading - I think he captured the dry wit of Robert B. Parker's writing. This reading makes Spencer sound more like Philip Marlow and I was not comfortable with the change. The witty remarks did not come across as well.

What did you like best about this story?

    The story.

Did David Dukes do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Yes, but Spencer is not Philip Marlow. The reader lost the dry humor of many of Spencer's lines.

The forty-year-old crucifixion of a prominent labor leader named Jack Flynn remains an unsolved atrocity that has never been forgotten in New Iberia, Louisiana. When Flynn's daughter Megan, a photojournalist drawn to controversial subjects, returns to the site of her father's murder, it quickly becomes clear that her family's bloodstained past will not stay buried. Megan gives her old friend Dave Robicheaux a tip about a small-time criminal named Cool Breeze Broussard, scarcely suspecting that the seemingly innocuous case will lead Robicheaux and his partner into the midst of deadly conspiracy. Combining brilliant prose, crackling suspense, and an exquisite sense of character and place, Sunset Limited is a wrenching tale of historic violence and soiled redemption that reveals America's finest novelist at his masterful best.

Alexa says: "Great Read in the Deep South"
"Good story, but I prefer the unabridged versions"
    Overall

I am a James Lee Burke fan. I sometimes find the abridged versions hard to follow. I love Will Patton's narration.
