"Prelude to Hitchhiker's Guide"
This was a wild, rollicking story of science fiction. I enjoyed the reading and the story. It reminded me of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - very fun, lots of twists & turns.
"Not my thing"
Story has an interesting format: older woman and young girl expostulating on life. Voice acting was good. But I thought it was somewhat pretentious and I got bored.
Yes
"Good story, good voice, great for listening."
Blackmail, sex, and mystery
I am a Spencer fan. The stories are good, they move along, the characters are interesting.
Spenser and Hawk vie for my favorite
no. I listen while I commute
"Good story, needed some additional editing"
I enjoyed this story, but it was about 30 hours of listening. Good premise, great character development.
I felt several hours could have been edited out and would have helped the story move. My book club picked this book and most of us liked it. the 'readers' could skim some of the lengthy parts, which made it easier to get through.
Stephen needs a stronger editor.
Yes, but in book form, so they can skim some parts.
Excellent performance. He did a variety of voices, all different. Seemed to catch the character's in the voice. Great job.
"Complex Story; okay reading"
Very good
interesting complex plot, I wasn't on the edge of my seat, but remained very interested
He does a good spenser, but all the characters sound the same. I could not differentiate Spence from Hawk
Kept me interested as I commuted and on my walks.
"Burt Reynolds did a pretty good job as narrator"
Burt Reynolds was very good at the character voices. I was not expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised.
Good plot. I am currently addicted to listening to my pal Spenser when i go walking. This kept me entertained.
Did not have a favorite
These books are 'mind candy' for me. Fun, good writing, some suspense, entertaining. I laughed out loud at some of Spenser's cracks, but 'moved'?
"Not to my taste"
I didn't read books 1 & 2, but the heroine was very impetuous and I didn't think someone who was so spontaneous could accomplish what she was doing. The book really went from sex scene to scene with a little action in between.
No, Just this series
She sounded really classy, but the character seemed very trashy - the voice didn't fit the character.
If the journey and battles had been flushed out as much as the sex, I probably would have enjoyed it more
Might be great for some readers, but I stopped listening 1/2 way through because I really did not care about the main character.
"Good story, voice is very different"
I have really enjoyed Michael Pritchard's reading - I think he captured the dry wit of Robert B. Parker's writing. This reading makes Spencer sound more like Philip Marlow and I was not comfortable with the change. The witty remarks did not come across as well.
The story.
Yes, but Spencer is not Philip Marlow. The reader lost the dry humor of many of Spencer's lines.
"Good story, but I prefer the unabridged versions"
I am a James Lee Burke fan. I sometimes find the abridged versions hard to follow. I love Will Patton's narration.
"Loved this story for adolescents"
I am a Kathy Reichs fan and I loved this story. It was trite in a few places, but overall a great distraction during a long commute.
"Good story"
Good story. While I prefer Will Patton's narration, I got used to Mark Hammer and enjoyed the story.
