  • Long Walk to Freedom: The Autobiography of Nelson Mandela

    • UNABRIDGED (27 hrs and 44 mins)
    • By Nelson Mandela
    • Narrated By Michael Boatman
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Nelson Mandela is one of the great moral and political leaders of our time: an international hero whose lifelong dedication to the fight against racial oppression in South Africa won him the Nobel Peace Prize and the presidency of his country. Since his triumphant release in 1990 from more than a quarter-century of imprisonment, Mandela has been at the center of the most compelling and inspiring political drama in the world.

    History says: "Surprisingly honest autobiography."
"A must for all to read/hear."
If you could sum up Long Walk to Freedom in three words, what would they be?

The amazing journey of patience and perseverance of an amazing man.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Long Walk to Freedom?

    The Journey

What about Michael Boatman’s performance did you like?

Very eloquent delivery of an amazing true depiction.

  • The Grapes of Wrath

    • UNABRIDGED (21 hrs and 5 mins)
    • By John Steinbeck
    • Narrated By Dylan Baker
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

At once naturalistic epic, captivity narrative, road novel, and transcendental gospel, Steinbeck’s, The Grapes of Wrath is perhaps the most American of American classics. Although it follows the movement of thousands of men and women and the transformation of an entire nation during the Dust Bowl migration of the 1930s, The Grapes of Wrath is also the story of one Oklahoma farm family, the Joads, who are forced to travel west to the promised land of California.

Dan Harlow says: "Almost more relevant now than when it was written"
    "A must read for anyone."
What made the experience of listening to The Grapes of Wrath the most enjoyable?

A gut wrenching tale of the incredible challenges that families endured in first being forced to move and then trying to find somewhere to settle and just make a living for their families during the dust bowl years in the US.

What did you like best about this story?

A well written and easy to believe story that depicted the real lives of families during the depression and what drove them to success and tragedy in their travels.

What about Dylan Baker’s performance did you like?

Did a great job of characterizing the different characters.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I hadn't read any books about this period and the challenges families endured.

    Any additional comments?

A must read and re-read for anyone.

  • The Bourne Deception

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 43 mins)
    • By Robert Ludlum, Eric Van Lustbader
    • Narrated By Jeremy Davidson

Jason Bourne's nemesis Arkadin is still hot on his trail and the two continue their struggle, reversing roles of hunter and hunted. When Bourne is ambushed and badly wounded, he fakes his death and goes into hiding. In safety, he takes on a new identity, and begins a mission to find out who tried to assassinate him. Jason begins to question who he really is, how much of him is tied up in the Bourne identity, and what he would become if that was suddenly taken away from him.

    Lanny says: "Disappointed"
    "Good Read"
Where does The Bourne Deception rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Another story in the Bourne books that keeps you engaged in the story and the challenges that the super-spec-ops Bourne is forced to face.

What other book might you compare The Bourne Deception to and why?

It fits nicely into the Bourne Thrillers. But when is he going to age and have a real vacation?

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

One of my least favorite performances all-around.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
