"Compelling read........."
I'm almost finished this second book in the series and it is just as compelling. I am amazed how it hold my attention. The characters come to life especially with Roy Dotrice's voice.
"Absorbing tale"
Although full of desriptions of poverty and depression I found this to be quite an absorbing tale. A lot of the book deals with lengthy thoughts and conversations of the characters and sometimes you wonder what the point is. This is one of the classics I missed reading when I was younger and wanted to catch up on and I'm glad I started it. I find myself wanting to return to it after I put it down.
"Can't put it down...."
I am just finishing the second book in this series. It's taken me a while but 2/3 of the way through almost 90 hours and I'm still interested. I love Roy Dotrice telling of the story and his characters help keep the story straight. This is a compelling read.
"Amazingly enthralling"
I say this is amazingly enthralling because the story is slow, the hero you want to shake and the reader too much into Paul Brenners sarcasm. Its hard to imagine someone in Brenners position allowing himself to be lead the way he was. Apart from that I found myself very much in the story and couldn't wait for the next drive in or out of work to see what was happening next. A very good educational and interesting account of the history of Vietnam, how it was for the soldiers over there and what is happening in the country now.
