At the end of Shadow of the Giant, Bean flees to the stars with three of his children--the three who share the engineered genes that gave him both hyper-intelligence and a short, cruel physical life. The time dilation granted by the speed of their travel gives Earth’s scientists generations to seek a cure, to no avail. In time, they are forgotten - a fading ansible signal speaking of events lost to Earth’s history. But the Delphikis are about to make a discovery that will let them save themselves, and perhaps all of humanity in days to come.

I am a long time fan of this series and enjoyed the read. If you are new to the series go back and start with Ender's Game first. If you have already read the series up to this point why are you wasting time reading my review? Not the best in the series, but good. If you've read everything so far this one is a must. For me the best narration is the type that becomes a transparent vehicle for the story. My highest praise for narration is that I didn't notice it. I didn't notice it here. If you love the Ender series definitely read this book. If you are new go to the beginning as this story really depends on you having a history with the character Bean. I have loved this series since beginning it in high school. If you've some how missed the series you have to go and read it from the beginning.

When Earth herself lay under siege by an enemy humankind could not defeat, mankind undertook one last throw of the dice: Operation Ark. Earth's final colonizing expedition was meant to build a new civilization, on a planet so distant even the Gbaba might never find it, and without the high-tech infrastructure whose emissions might betray its location.

    Story

This book has a lot of political talk, but delivers a scifi set in a future time on a human colony planet with a feudal political system and technology to match. The narration was really good. It added to the story without bringing attention to itself; which should be the goal of every narrator. I was really looking forward to reading the rest of the series until I realized that every book in the rest of the series costs 2 credits. The first book is one credit to draw you in; then the rest are 2 credits. Bad form Audible; Bad Form! It's a shame. I was about to cancel my membership because I couldn't find anything to spend my credits on. When I found this I thought I would be around at least long enough to finish the series, but these books aren't really worth 2 credits, and podcasts are free.

It's the 21st century, and global warming is here to stay, so forget the way your country used to look. And get used to the free market, too – the companies possess all the best hardware, and they're calling the shots now. In a world like this, a man open to any offers can make out just fine. A man like Greg Mandel for instance, who's psi-boosted, wired into the latest sensory equipment, carrying state-of-the-art weaponry – and late of the English Army's Mindstar Battalion.

After about 3 hours I just couldn't enjoy this story. I've read several books by Hamilton and loved all the rest, but this one just couldn't get my interest. I may be biased by my dislike for psychic abilities in stories. If you want Hamilton at his greatest try Pandora's Star, but be warned you might get addicted to a series of long books. ( the kind I look for most)
