The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. There wasn't a redeeming value to this story. Character development was weak.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Kitchen House

Could you see Beautiful Ruins being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Not really. I'm not familiar with modern actors and actresses so have no clue who would play the parts.

What made the experience of listening to How to Win Friends & Influence People the most enjoyable?

Thought provoking and easy to apply to everyday life both professional and personal.

What about Andrew MacMillan’s performance did you like?

He had a pleasant but expressive tone. A pleasure to listen to.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    A Guide to Living

    Any additional comments?

The book is a classic but some of the information is dated. For example - not much was known about mental illness at the time of its writing and also some examples such as flattery of the secretaries may be considered harassment by today's standards. But this was such a minute part of the book that it does not detract from the rest of the invaluable information.
