Mercy Thompson's life has undergone a seismic change. Becoming the mate of Adam Hauptman - the charismatic Alpha of the local werewolf pack - has made her a stepmother to his daughter, Jesse, a relationship that brings moments of blissful normalcy to Mercy's life. But on the edges of humanity, what passes for a minor mishap on an ordinary day can turn into so much more.... After an accident in bumper-to-bumper traffic, Mercy and Jesse can't reach Adam - or anyone else in the pack for that matter. They've all been abducted.....

Have to say that I almost didn't listen to this installment, thinking that I was kinda let down with the last book. I did enjoy this book however, as it brought in more of the old characters, Stephan being one of my favorites.
It's a non-stop story of kidnapping, finding bad guys, and dealing with the problem. Brings in group efforts from the werewolves and the vampires.
Was kinda disappointed with all the political views in the story, but seems that's what celebrities do these days, is to speak their peace, and Hollywood is notorious for it. I really doubt Ms. Briggs could foresee just how either political party would react to the real discovery of werewolves. But, it's her book and she can write whatever she fancies.
Love this narrator for the Mercy voice, and glad I didn't bypass the book.

For centuries, the extremely powerful and ruthless vampire witches of the European Council have wandered the Earth, controlling governments, fostering war, creating political conflict, and often leaving absolute destruction in their wake. One of the strongest of them is set to create some havoc in the city of New Orleans, and it's definitely personal.

For fans of the series, it's not hard to say that this could possibly be the best yet. Jane's life is coming together finally with finding the much needed family she missed out on, and getting the kind of boyfriend she deserves. Along with that she and Beast have bonded as one, working and feeling in harmony. All this is a good thing, because she's battling the Son of Darkness, the most powerful of vampires that goes on a killing spree across the city. It's non stop action and exhaustion for the security crew, as Jane is ordered to take his heart, but leave him alive to return to Leo. That's a tall order that requires the assistance from the witches, and Molly still can't be trusted with her dark side. Brute the werewolf has an intriguing role in this book, sure to develop in future books. As always, Jane goes through more personal growth with her quest, where she decides exactly what she is, as a metamorphosis takes place. Love the narrator, she's Jane.

Two brothers bound by more than blood discover a conspiracy that will change their destiny in the astonishing all-new novel of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, the "frighteningly addictive" (Publishers Weekly) series by number-one New York Times best-selling author J. R. Ward.

    Story

Sometimes series are just too long. I don't know why authors ruin a series by dragging it out. I loved the Black Dagger Brotherhood for years. They were totally original bad a... tough guys, that loved hard and fought harder. In the last couple of books, something has been lost from that original idea. I miss those nasty Lessors, the fight scenes, the tough talk camaraderie of it all. This one takes the cake as far as love stories go, because the author seems to really dislike her two main characters. Trez has been persecuted since birth and Selena has only been "good". They deserve a HEA. Even though Trez and Selena highlighted the novel, there were so many secondary stories going on, it made your head spin. Mainly the whole book was a set up for the next two books, namely bringing in Paradise and Craige for the upcoming "Blood Kiss", and spotlighting Rhage's survivor's remorse as an intro to the next BDB novel.

    Possible "Spoilers"
The Shadows left so many previously dangling ends from other books, it's beginning to look like fringe. It touches on Xcor and Layla to the point of annoyance. Just do something with them, please. Assail is there, but tossed aside again, what's the deal with Lucas who begs for death and denied,(where euthanasia is presented as an acceptable practice in the vampire world, which brings me back to the author not liking her main characters), and what happened to Murhder? It would seem to me with 22 hours of listening that more could be settled.

    Story

For the paranormal romance fancier, this series is turning out to be a treat. Not so much romance, as a romantic teaser. Silver has plenty of men in her life, all special in their own way, all out to protect her from Nero who wants her light. Logan Cross is the new 'man' that forces himself into her life, with unwanted intentions. Silver's life is in jeopardy once again, but the fun of this story begins.
The story line is getting much more interesting with a couple of new characters being introduced, making "Impulse" a must read.

    Story

This to me was just an OK paranormal love story, but did have the typical annoying heroine. I get real frustrated with main characters that can't read between the lines and figure out what trouble they are in. For instance, when she had beings stalking her wanting to do who knows what, and she's going to go in to heet at any time, but doesn't seem to care to find out anything at all about what will happen during that period of time, she only insisted on going back to her apartment, instead of staying where she can be protected. Then, it seems every man she has ever dated (or known) is out to rape or kill her all of a sudden (What's up with that?).
If you like the formula love stories where the heroine can't get it together til the end, and the two main characters are in love, but mutually think the other one doesn't love them back, then this one's for you.

She's attacked, saved by one stranger, then saved by another stranger, and still another stranger runs to her rescue. I don't know what's so special about this girl, but the men seem to know, as everyone wants to protect and maybe love her. She's not without her enemies though, that want her for hidden reasons. That's where the story becomes interesting, the mysterious part of it and hopefully we will learn more about Zoe's special gifts in future installments. As for this one, it's a nice beginning that introduces us to the mage world, that she's been thrown in to.

Anna Moder has just witnessed a shooting, seen her car pulverized, and rescued a wounded stranger - only to discover he's really a werewolf. And by her recent standards, things are actually looking up. Lycanthropes don't faze Anna. Doctoring a wolf pack outside Grundy, Alaska, is the closest thing to home life she's known in years. But hitching a ride to Anchorage with long-absent pack member Caleb Graham - that's a risk. Part of her itches to whack his nose with a newspaper. The rest is trying unsuccessfully to keep her own paws off every delicious inch of him.

Always my favorites, the Werewolves and Vampires. I don't think I would ever want to read any of these books, when Amanda Ronconi is narrating them. Her delivery adds so much to the story that undeniably it wouldn't be the same without her voice. This one has the usual predictability as most of the series does, but who cares when they are so enjoyable and always leaves you feeling good.

The author of the Looking for Trouble travel book series, Poke Rafferty is ready to settle down in Bangkok with his fiance, Rose, and his newly adopted daughter, Miaow. But trouble isn't ready to let him go; it's back in Poke's life with a vengeance, in the guise of his long-estranged father, Frank, the last person he ever wanted to see again. And Frank hasn't come empty-handed, arriving with a box of rubies, a wad of fraudulent identity papers, and one of the most dangerous gangsters in China in hot pursuit.

The publisher's summary says it all, as to the basic plot of the story. Everything is going right for Poke, but that is seemingly coming to an end, when Rose is caught up in a counterfeiting scheme, and his long lost Father shows up bringing more danger to Poke's family. What the summary does leave out is the wonderful character development and how you truly feel you know these people along with their struggles. It's an engrossing story that doesn't let you down.

Listened to this story after hearing "Allegiance", where Robin and Nick were dominant characters. Robin is a fun gal with all kinds of surprises, but she is not the main character of this story. Kel and Moory are the focus here, and the story was interesting although it did drag at times with too much detail. The narration could have been better.
