The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

Would you try another book from Jess Walter and/or Edoardo Ballerini?

    Never

What could Jess Walter have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Wrote an actual story instead of a play that could have taken place in one room. Most of the book was dialog and monolog. No action at all.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    disappointment.

    Any additional comments?

I didnt bother with the second half. By then it had twigged to me that this was some old persons idea of a love story. BORING. The write up on the book being a future hit and best seller is misleading, and beyond me. It drones on and on and on .......I had to put it down. Sorry.

A group of close friends gathers at a secluded cabin in the wintry mountains of Colorado for a final holiday hurrah. Instead, it may be their last stand. First a massive blizzard leaves them marooned. Then the more chilling realization: Something is lurking in the woods, watching them, waiting.... Now a weekend of family, friends, and fun has turned into a test of love and loyalty in the face of inhuman horrors. The only hope for those huddled inside is to fight - tooth and nail, bullet and blade - for their lives. Otherwise, they’ll end up like the monsters’ other victims: bright pools of blood on glittering snow, screams lost in the vast mountains.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. Read one werewolf book, read them all

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The whole story. Werewolf books are all the same. With all the vampire/ werewolf movies that are out at the moment ...

    Any additional comments?

Please. Enough with the were wolves and vampires. I used to read them when I was 13.

Five days ago a rash of bizarre murders swept the country. Senseless. Brutal. Seemingly unconnected. A cop walked into a nursing home and unloaded his weapons on elderly and staff alike. A mass of school shootings. Prison riots of unprecedented brutality. Mind-boggling acts of violence in every state. Four Days Ago the murders increased ten-fold. Three days ago the President addressed the nation and begged for calm and peace. Two days ago the killers began to mobilize. Yesterday all the power went out. Tonight....

This true modern masterpiece is built around the two fateful words that make up the title and herald the end - “Alas, Babylon.” When a nuclear holocaust ravages the United States, a thousand years of civilization are stripped away overnight, and tens of millions of people are killed instantly. But for one small town in Florida, miraculously spared, the struggle is just beginning, as men and women of all backgrounds join together to confront the darkness....

Would you consider the audio edition of Alas, Babylon to be better than the print version?

This man has a very good insight. I have read a lot of post war books, and without a doubt, this one beats the lot. No Heros, no wanna be's and very practical.Even though written in the late 60s this book still relates to modern times, This should be compulsory reading for all high schools.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Alas, Babylon?

The smallest things you don't think of, are the most important.(eg) Salt over Liquor or coffee.

Have you listened to any of Will Patton’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes

    Any additional comments?

Going to download the rest of his books
