In awarding John Steinbeck the 1962 Nobel Prize in Literature, the Nobel committee stated that with The Winter of Our Discontent, he had “resumed his position as an independent expounder of the truth, with an unbiased instinct for what is genuinely American."

In the latest from Nelson DeMille (author of The Lion's Game), Paul Brenner is called out of CID retirement to investigate the murder 30 years ago of an army lieutenant in Vietnam. Brenner's trip up country, with a beautiful American expatriate for company, will lead him to uncover an explosive, long-buried secret.

Where does Up Country rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Worth taking the time to write a review. After reading it, I bought a hard copy for by brother, a Viet Nam vet. He read it in one seating.

    Any additional comments?

This story gives a "non" vet a real feel for the men and women who were there, and also, I hope, some healing for those who were.
