Would you consider the audio edition of Fifty Shades Darker to be better than the print version?

    Didn't read it.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Anna of course! She's THE perfect person for 'fifty'.

What does Becca Battoe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I'm not crazy about her male voices, but give her credit for doing so many of them well. I do like her voice as it brings Anna's character to life. I would like to hear other books by Ms. Battoe.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I have to say I did have an extreme reaction. I'm surprised I got past the first book since 'erotica' isn't what I choose to read. However, the story is so compelling it turned into the best book I've 'heard' in a very long time.

    Any additional comments?

It definitely lives up to the hype!

If you could sum up Say You're Sorry in three words, what would they be?

    Well written, fast paced, intriguing.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Piper. She is such a sympathetic character, yet she triumphs in spirit beyond anybody's expectations.

Have you listened to any of Sean Barrett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No I haven't listened to him perform. I think he is in the top tier of narrators.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes. Many more that stirred my spirit.

    Any additional comments?

To those who have read many of the authors novels my opinions will be redundant. This book was exceptional in my opinion. It wasn't overly predictable. It's fast paced and holds your interest until the last word.

Nicola Marter was born with a gift. When she touches an object, she sometimes glimpses those who have owned it before. When a woman arrives with a small wooden carving at the gallery Nicola works at, she can see the object’s history and knows that it was named after the Firebird - the mythical creature from an old Russian fable. Compelled to know more, Nicola follows a young girl named Anna who leads her into the past on a quest through the glittering backdrops of the Jacobites and Russian courts, unearthing a tale of love, courage, and redemption.

Would you listen to The Firebird again? Why?

Yes, I did. I didn't know about the prequel to this book. So after I listened to The Winter Sea, I re-listened to this one.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Again, Anna. She has such character. She's humble, kind, smart and funny.

Have you listened to any of Katherine Kellgren’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No I haven't but I certainly loved this one!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I don't cry but I smile a lot during this book.

    Any additional comments?

It will be difficult to find another series I liked as much as this.

History has all but forgotten.... In the spring of 1708, an invading Jacobite fleet of French and Scottish soldiers nearly succeeded in landing the exiled James Stewart in Scotland to reclaim his crown. Now, Carrie McClelland hopes to turn that story into her next best-selling novel. Settling herself in the shadow of Slains Castle, she creates a heroine named for one of her own ancestors and starts to write. But then she discovers her novel is more fact than fiction....

Would you listen to The Winter Sea again? Why?

Yes, absolutely! I listened to the sequel first, then this. Loved them both so I went back and listened to the sequel again. At some point I will listen to them both again.

What other book might you compare The Winter Sea to and why?

Speaks the Nightbird. First of all, the history. Both of these writers bring that era to life for me, as if I am watching a movie. The detail, and the narrators.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Rosalyn Landor?

I didn't care for this narrator as much as The Firebird's.

Who was the most memorable character of The Winter Sea and why?

    Anna, of course.

    Any additional comments?

If you like historical fiction with a love story (or two) woven in you can't miss with this one.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

    A different narrator.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Changed the narrator. This one was a bowl of oatmeal.

What didn’t you like about Joyce Bean’s performance?

Her cadence was off. Her male voices were absurd.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Not sure. I may listen from time to time when I can tolerate the narrator just to hear how it ends.

    Any additional comments?

I guess you can't always get the real picture from reviews. I doubt I will try another Joyce Bean book.

What did you like about this audiobook?

The finely woven details. Not knowing where this book was going until it ended. The rich descriptions of the times, although I could have loved even more. Especially the medical techniques available at that time. I don't think I would have made it through this book had I read it. The glorious narration of Edoardo Ballerini brought the richness of tumult to beguile the senses and keep you wanting more.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

Attention to detail. I love the details. I read a complaint that the book should have lost the entire midsection. I disagree! Each and every detail, even hideous and vile, make the book and characters more real and believable.

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

Yes absolutely. I don't know how he achieves this. He is truly gifted with words and provides such detail you feel as though you really know what it would be like in this time and in this story.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

NOT ONE THING. I am in awe of Mr. Ballerini's interpretations of characters voices. I want to hear more. The marriage of this author and this narrator is a symphony.

Do you have any additional comments?

I rarely come across books that, as they say "I can't put down" but this is one of them.

The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The ending. The story was missing a great last page. In general the story was very interesting and descriptive to a fault.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Satisfying for the most part. The last detail however, was not.

What does Edoardo Ballerini bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Now here is where I sing copious praise! Edoardo is the melody to this song. I felt like I was watching a movie. His voice brought meaning to each word.

Was Beautiful Ruins worth the listening time?

Yes. It was a little slow to start, but worth the listen.

    Any additional comments?

I did enjoy the listen. Don't think I would have gotten through it if I were reading as it didn't grab me from the first chapter.

Where does Persuader rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    Near the top for sure.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Aside from Jack, always the fav. it's always interesting to see who will be the sex interest of the day. All the characters are very interesting.

What about Dick Hill’s performance did you like?

He just gets better with time!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would if I could have.

The ending. Not the best. He could have tried just a bit harder to make it juicy to the very, exact, precise end. Didn't happen.

Sure, but also wanted to prolong the great listen.

    Any additional comments?

    I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
