Laurie King is a superb writer and this latest addition is one of her best. If you love a good Sherlock Holmes mystery you will be enchanted with this 1920 intrigue set in British India. Mary Russell, Holmes' associate, partner and wife, is a good counterpart for the detective post Watson. I really enjoyed this audible book.
I really wanted to like this book. The plot was fascinating but I found myself impatient with the characters. The book follows the characters through high school and beyond. Despite the passage of time the characters never developed but seemed stuck in adolescence. It was sheer determination that kept me listening until the end.
Maybe what I was looking for is in the second book; but I just don't want to make another investment waiting for a reasonable glimpse of humanity in the protagonist that I longed to see occur in book one.
The ending had me searching for the next book in the series. If you like Nora Roberts, this book is for you.
I have read many Robert Crais books and always enjoy them. This book was a diversion from his regular storyline- a portion of the story is narrated from the dog's perspective. If you are a Robert Crais fan and you love dogs, this book is for you.
I picked up this audio on the 4.95 special list. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It is a fun book with witty and sarcastic quips that kept me entertained. If an imagine of Stephanie Plum in high school appeals, you will enjoy this audio.
