The third and final book of this series, was by far worth the wait I had to endure. I won't spoil the story, however the series changing twist happens halfway through. This change doesn't kill the book, there are far more twists to come. I only wish that a second series would follow, the changes made to the world seem only open up the story even more.
I give this book, one of five books in my entire life I've never finished better than it deserves by even writing a review. The first clue is that a child falls several stories to paving stones to be put into a coma and be permanently paralyzed after being tossed out of a window for witnessing the married queen having incestuous sex with her twin brother while her husband the king meets with said boy's father in the father's own castle! If i remember correctly that happened in the first approximately forty five minutes. From there on till past halfway into the book there is only political maneuvering and a decisive coup killing off three main characters. There are so many characters and plots even i got lost and I read an entire Robert Jordan book in less than eighteen hours! The only plots i followed was this. In a fictional realm there is never any happiness and never any true love, people die for no reason and rape is one of the most common forms of interaction. There are so many sex scenes i skipped about one sixth of the story and it didn't detract any more from a story i grew to detest. In my opinion you have to be slightly cracked to come up with some of this stuff. A twelve year old kid wanting to see people "fly" by throwing them off a cliff? What in the world?! A girl barely into puberty being basically sold onto marriage with a foreign lord and then being raped by her "husband" ?! Said girl getting pregnant just past halfway into the story ?! Who would support this stuff? Just because it's fiction and it's not real it makes this stuff okay? Despite all this, this story will keep getting five stars from people. Please do not listen to this story .
While the end is bittersweet it is an epic ending for an even more epic series. I could not have imagine a better ending.
This is a must have for anyone who likes near future stories. While at times you couldn't tell the narrator switched to a guy her voice was perfect for Tris. I have heard a lot worse from quite a few narrators. While the sexuality and action don't kick into top gear near the end, it's worth the wait. If you are like me and love adrenaline you'll also wish you could be Dauntless.
This is a very good book. Unlike the Safehold series there is almost no action, however even an action fan liek me enjoyed this book. The character development is astounding, even in the treecat's view. My only issue is that it is relatively shorter than the Safehold series, but I would still put it very high on my top 10 list. The choice for a narrator is also great, she was also able to pull of the male voices with enough definition that if the next spoken line was also a guy you could tell it was different person. I believe this series will be very close to Safehold in my favorite series list, and that alone is complement enough.
