  • The Panic of 1907: Lessons Learned from the Market's Perfect Storm

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 18 mins)
    • By Robert F. Bruner, Sean D. Carr
    • Narrated By Jay Snyder
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In The Panic of 1907, authors Robert Bruner and Sean Carr offer an alternate perspective through a detailed narrative of one of the worst crises in modern financial history - one which ultimately transformed the American financial system and resulted in the establishment of the modern Federal Reserve.

Donald says: "Before the Great Recession"
What made the experience of listening to The Panic of 1907 the most enjoyable?

It's amazing how history repeats itself... And we apparently don't learn anything from our mistakes. The excesses and lack of regulation that triggered the 1907 banking panic (and the ones that preceeded it), continues until the present day. Listening to this book, I got the impression that I could simply replace "1907" with "2008" and the story would still make sense.

  • The Intelligent Investor: The Classic Best Seller on Value Investing

    • ABRIDGED (2 hrs and 45 mins)
    • By Benjamin Graham
    • Narrated By Bill McGowan

The classic best seller by Benjamin Graham, perhaps the greatest investment advisor of the 20th century, The Intelligent Investor has taught and inspired hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. Since its original publication in 1949, Benjamin Graham's book has remained the most respected guide to investing, due to his timeless philosophy of "value investing".

gulrez says: "very useful, unfortunately abridged"
    "Great book, awful abridged version"
What would have made The Intelligent Investor better?

I shouldn't be so short. I read the original printed version and there is so much more in it! They basically read a summary of the book and sold it as an abridged version. Total waste of a credit.

What could Benjamin Graham have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Nothing. The original book is awesome.

Would you be willing to try another one of Bill McGowan’s performances?

Yes. The narration was very good.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    Not this version

    Any additional comments?

I didn't know that an abridged version could be so much shorter then the original one.

  • Outliers: The Story of Success

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 22 mins)
    • By Malcolm Gladwell
    • Narrated By Malcolm Gladwell
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In this stunning new book, Malcolm Gladwell takes us on an intellectual journey through the world of "outliers"--the best and the brightest, the most famous and the most successful. He asks the question: what makes high-achievers different? His answer is that we pay too much attention to what successful people are like, and too little attention to where they are from: that is, their culture, their family, their generation, and the idiosyncratic experiences of their upbringing.

S Prabhu says: "Excellent book; well adapted for the audio format"
Where does Outliers rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    Certainly top-5

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

The way it brings amazing success stories down to earth.

Have you listened to any of Malcolm Gladwell’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. This was the first one.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Any additional comments?

Amazing book. Makes you want to say "Ha! That makes sense!" all the time.
