"There are Good Things and Bad Things"
I rated this book with 4 stars, but I would have preferred 3 1/2.
I'm going to get the next book. This one wasn't great enough to keep me listening all weekend, but I'm hoping it will improve. I liked this book enough to finish (and lately, that's saying something). I didn't even speed it in to double time to hurry it along.
Pros:
I like the supporting characters and I want to know more about David, Max, & Casper.
The book was fairly entertaining.
The sex was G-rated (I'm really tired of the graphic sex so that's a good thing).
Cons:
The narrator wasn't the best I've heard, but since I just finished "The Help", I don't suppose anyone could stand up to those standards.
I thought Anna was kinda dumb. Granted, she is a new vampire, but *spoiler alert!!!* coming next.......
She's a vamp in handcuffs and it doesn't occur to her to try to break them? Duh.
"Great As Always"
Molly Harper has done it again! This 4th book in the "Nice Girls" series is just as good as the other three. I was entertained and laughed many times (as I always do with MH books).
I have to admit, I panicked near the end because I thought the series was ending because of some things that happened, but then Molly threw us a curve ball and now there is subject matter for several more books. Whew! That's a relief.
Amanda Ronconi was awesome as the narrator, as always.
I had started and stopped several audio books before NGDBTN because I was bored but I listened to this one every chance I could and was disappointed when it was over. I am ready for #5.
"Good Book but a Little Preachy"
Liked the book but I was a little put off by the preaching of vegetarianism, recycling, etc. It's not that I disagree with the concept, but I don't particularly care for it in my fantasy books. I also found it a little unbelievable that an Immortal would own a Prius. Hot men drive a Jag, Hummer, Mercedes, etc., but not a Prius!
Otherwise, I thought this book, and the first in the series were very good and I plan to buy the third when it is released.
"Good Start & End / Crappy Narrator"
This book is a little different, with Norse mythology and mythological creatures, healers, witches, shape shifters, and fire demons. I like both the characters of Grace and Aiden.
When I started this audio book, I thought it got off to a good start and the narrator was okay. After a half hour, the book was still good but the narration just got worse. It was more like a boring reading. The. Book. Was. Read. Like.This. It was definitely one of the poorest performances I've heard.
Demon Crossings lost quite a bit of steam in the middle and the narrator made listening painful so I almost quit listening, but I hung in there. I was glad I did. The book picked up at the end and maybe I got used to the narration because it didn't seem so bad, or maybe my ears were numb by this time.
But I did think the story was good. With someone else performing, the overall rating would have been at least 4 stars. Check the sample clip first. You might want to skip the audio book and read the book instead.
"SEP is Always a Winner!"
I have read several of the books by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, including the Chicago Stars series, and I have not once been disappointed with her books. They are light reading and a nice escape from every day life. First Lady was a great listen with some enjoyable twists and turns. I would definitely recommend this book to others.
I believe that Anna Fields was one of the best narrators in the business and the audio book community lost a great performer with her death.
Five stars all the way for this audio book.
"Outstanding Beginning to a Series"
After being an Audible subscriber for more than 2 yrs, I have lots of audio books in my library. 586 to be specific. I've listened to more than 500 and I've gotten really picky about buying a series. Well, this series is definitely a keeper. The characters are strong and the erotic scenes are not as graphic as some authors. I purchased this book and several others after purchasing book 2 on sale. I have not been disappointed.
I like both of the main characters, Sasha and Lucas. So many books have lead characters that I think are either weak or dumb but these two are neither.
I know a few people have been unhappy with the narrator but I think she does a fine job.
"Book Two of a New Series!"
I purchased this book on sale but it hooked me enough that I bought book number one (and several others). I have not been disappointed.
"Best of the Series"
I waited quite a while to listen to Pale Demon after buying it on sale. When I started listening, I wasn't sure if it would be as good as I had hoped. Well, it exceeded my expectations and I think it's the best book of the series. It has a little different feel than previous books but we got to explore more of Rachel and her men.
Even though the book wasn't exactly a cliff hanger, I found myself thinking that it couldn't end this way. I don't want to wait another year to find out what happens (and of course, we all know what path Rachel will choose) and possibly who Rachel's love interest will be.
I'm definitely on board for the next book in the series and I think Marguerite Gavin is an exceptional narrator.
"Loved It!"
I've listen to so many books in the past 10 months that I've gotten fairly picky. I want the book to catch my attention in the first 5 minutes and HTTG did just that. I was hooked from the first few minutes.
I was very surprised at Bones' accent because I was used to all the high-class sounding British accents. So it took me a few minutes to become accustomed to it, but then, I thought it was great. It is the perfect accent for Bones' sense of humor.
Cat, aka "Kitten" is a kick-fanny heroine (and way more tolerant of her mother than I would have been). She is a strong woman who doesn't take crap from anyone (except Mom).
I enjoyed this book so much that I read the remaining 3 books in this series, listened to First Drop of Crimson, and I am downloading Eternal Kiss of Darkness. I am waiting for the other 3 Grave books to become available on Audible. Even though I've already read them, it will be well worth it to be able to listen to the books.
