Fresh from Afghanistan, James Bond has been recruited to a new agency. Conceived in the post-9/11 world, it operates independent of Five, Six and the MoD, its very existence deniable. Its aim: to protect the Realm, by any means necessary. The Night Action alert calls Bond from dinner with a beautiful woman. GCHQ has decrypted an electronic whisper about an attack scheduled for later in the week: casualties estimated in the thousands, British interests adversely affected.

If you like the new Bond movies, with their more realistic James Bond ... you will love this book. I really enjoyed it. Interesting story, good writing, and the performance was terrific. One of my first Audible.com books and I was very pleased. Sat in the car occasionally, because of the suspense of the book!

He’s the scion of an honorable and revered family. A dedicated soldier and distinguished legislator. Loyal proponent of the Republic and trusted ally of the Jedi Order. Groomed by the ruthless politician and Sith Lord who would be Emperor, Governor Wilhuff Tarkin rises through the Imperial ranks, enforcing his authority ever more mercilessly…. and zealously pursuing his destiny as the architect of absolute dominion.

Nice to see a 'behind the scenes' work, giving some background to Tarkin. I was happily surprised at how much Darth Vader and Darth Sidious featured in this! Luceno really has the dark side down ... I loved Plagueus and Rise of Darth Vader. Now, I'm planning on reading everything else he has written.

Docked a star on performance because while the Tarkin and Sidious voices were great, the Darth Vader voice wasn't fantastic. But it doesn't really detract from the overall work.

The Jedi Order is in crisis. The late Jacen Solo's shocking transformation into murderous Sith Lord Darth Caedus has cast a damning pall over those who wield the Force for good: Two Jedi Knights have succumbed to an inexplicable and dangerous psychosis, criminal charges have driven Luke Skywalker into self-imposed exile, and power-hungry Chief of State Natasi Daala is exploiting anti-Jedi sentiment to undermine the Order's influence within the Galactic Alliance.

What did you like best about this story?

The background on the Lost Sith was interesting, and I like that you get a little bit of Luke, Han and Leia.

What does Marc Thompson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Unbelievable voices and tone and such clear enunciation. I basically am listening to this series because I like 'hearing' Star Wars, even if the stories are just okay.

    Any additional comments?

Someone Give Marc Thompson a raise, and a free Landspeeder or something. He is officially part of Star Wars lore.

The second novel set in the Old Republic era and based on the massively multiplayer online game Star Wars: The Old Republic ramps up the action and brings listeners face-to-face for the first time with a Sith warrior to rival the most sinister of the Order’s Dark Lords: Darth Malgus, the mysterious, masked Sith of the wildly popular “Deceived” and “Hope” game trailers. Malgus brought down the Jedi Temple on Coruscant in a brutal assault that shocked the galaxy....

Loved this book ... and Marc Thompson is AMAZING with his voices and his energy. So good. I thought, as it was getting started ... oh, well, this will take a while to get into a major Sith battle or lightsaber fight. WRONG! By the early chapters some serious crap starts going down ... Very fun to listen to this ...

Once the Sith order teemed with followers. But their rivalries divided them in endless battles for supremacy - until one dark lord at last united the Sith in the quest to enslave the galaxy and exterminate the Jedi. Yet it would fall to another, far more powerful than the entire Brotherhood of Darkness, to ultimately realize the full potential of the Sith, and wield the awesome power of the dark side as never before.

Weaving insights from philosophy, neuroscience, and history into a rich narrative, The Shallows explains how the Internet is rerouting our neural pathways, replacing the subtle mind of the book reader with the distracted mind of the screen watcher. A gripping story of human transformation played out against a backdrop of technological upheaval, The Shallows will forever alter the way we think about media and our minds.

I loved the provocative subject, but also the very balanced approach the author takes to the question. I was surprised (pleasantly) at the quality and variety of useful background that was provided. Some great research was done here ... the narration was great. I also bought to printed book, so that I could mark and note some passages for review later.

I think the authors point is an important one.

The two young intelligence officers, trained in their respective spy schools, collide in a charged atmosphere of tradecraft, deception, and inevitably, a forbidden spiral of carnal attraction that threatens their careers and the security of America's valuable mole in Moscow.

Just the kind of spy novel I was hoping for ... intrigue, trade-craft, and all modernized in a way and context that feels so authentic!

I enjoyed the narration, but the story, it's twists and turns, are the hero here. It was really interesting to get the little little insights into the more practical matters of spying. Thanks Mr. Matthews! When is your next novel coming out?

Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of this country only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett has just become number five.... Nothing is as it seems and everything’s fair game in this wickedly clever new novel from John Grisham, the undisputed master of the legal thriller.
