Israeli art restorer and occasional secret agent Gabriel Allon has a problem. He finds a prominent Swiss banker dead in front of his Raphael, and he's the prime suspect. After some diplomatic intervention, Allon is freed. However, the banker's daughter tells him that her father's French Impressionist paintings, acquired under dubious circumstances during WWII, have been stolen by the murderers. Once Allon knows about the wartime misdeeds, he is pursued by a shadowy killer known only as "the Englishman."

Would you listen to The English Assassin again? Why?

Love Daniel Silva and always hate to reach the end of his novels. This was no exception. Great plot with plenty of twists. So well written I would read any of Silva's novels again just to savor his skill.

The four fires in this story are passion, religion, warfare, and fire itself. While there are many more fires that drive the human spirit, love being perhaps the brightest flame of all, it is these four that have moulded us most as Australian people. The four fires give us our sense of place and, for better or for worse, shape our national character.

Epic good read. Memorable Characters who drew forth great emotion. I found myself laughing out loud, enraged and near tears at different points in the novel. Not many authors can draw me into such emotional responses. Very well written!

Would you consider the audio edition of Portrait of a Spy to be better than the print version?

Listening allowed me to grasp the 'accent' and 'flavor' of this well told story that is alarmingly all too close to the truth.

    Any additional comments?

I would highly recommend this audio book.

We are accustomed to think of sociopaths as violent criminals, but in The Sociopath Next Door, Harvard psychologist Martha Stout reveals that a shocking 4 percent of ordinary people, one in 25, has an often undetected mental disorder, the chief symptom of which is that that person possesses no conscience. He or she has no ability whatsoever to feel shame, guilt, or remorse. One in 25 everyday Americans, therefore, is secretly a sociopath.
