Hugo and Nebula Award winner Joe Haldeman ranks among the greatest science fiction authors to ever live. This thrilling entry from his Marsbound saga finds the mysterious alien Others prohibiting humans from space travel by destroying Earth’s fleet of starships in a display of unimaginable power. But Carmen Dula, the first human to encounter the Others, is determined to find a way to reclaim the future that has been stolen from humankind.

Would you consider the audio edition of Earthbound to be better than the print version?

I actually read the print version AND listened to the audio version and enjoyed them both for different reasons. This was very well done.

Which character – as performed by Annie Henk – was your favorite?

    Carmen Dula

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Can't tell what it was without giving away an important part of the story, but yes, there are several.

    Any additional comments?

My favorite audio book of the trilogy is Starbound. There are three different narrators and they really brought the book to life. I'm always sad to read the last book in a series, as was the case with this one. Excellent tale and commentary on society.

  • 11-22-63: A Novel

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book is AWESOME! I highly recommend it to anyone! I am not a fan of horror, so some of King's books are not my cup of tea. One of my favorite King books to date was "Hearts in Atlantis". This book has surpassed that one as my favorite. It is everything I had hoped it would be, and more. It keeps you captivated, intrigued, on the edge of your seat, and the ending does not disappoint.

What did you like best about this story?

I love "time travel" stories. This is one with a very interesting twist.

What about Craig Wasson’s performance did you like?

He was EXCELLENT! He brought the characters to life. His pacing was excellent.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I can't tell you because it would give away too much of the story.

    Any additional comments?

    LISTEN TO THIS BOOK!!

  • Talent Is Overrated: What Really Separates World-Class Performers from Everybody Else

One of the most popular Fortune articles in many years was a cover story called "What It Takes to Be Great." Geoff Colvin offered new evidence that top performers in any field - from Tiger Woods and Winston Churchill to Warren Buffett and Jack Welch - are not determined by their inborn talents. Greatness doesn't come from DNA but from practice and perseverance honed over decades.

What did you like best about this story?

It was very eye-opening to hear that the people we so often assume have some God-given talent or gift are really just "ordinary" people who deliberately practiced their craft, and as a result, achieved phenomenal success. It changed the way I looked at work and practice. Tons of great insights.

What does David Drummond bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I don't know if I would have kept reading the print book because it is a bit dry in places. David Drummond did a great job of holding my attention, despite the detailed information presented.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

Hard work is not "deliberate practice", and most of us will not engage in deliberate practice because it is SO difficult.

    Any additional comments?

This will change the way you look at what is necessary to become "great" in business, sports, hobbies, etc...

Young Carmen Dula and her family are about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime - they're going to Mars. Once on the Red Planet, however, Carmen realizes things are not so different from Earth. There are chores to do, lessons to learn, and oppressive authority figures to rebel against.

If you could sum up Marsbound in three words, what would they be?

I love Joe Haldeman. The Forever War is one of my favorite sci-fi books ever. I listened to Starbound first, not realizing it was part of a trilogy. After finishing it, I HAD to start at the beginning of the trilogy,so got Marsbound. It is another excellent Haldeman story!

What does Liza Kaplan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She does a really great job of bringing Carmen to life. She sounds just the way I figured she'd sound at the age she is in this book.

    Any additional comments?

Get the entire trilogy. It's an excellent read!
