"complex and intelligent"
It took a little while to get into and sort out all of the characters and parallel storylines, however, it was worth it!
"Cryptonomicon" was long but the story was so complex that it seemed right (I even wanted the book to go on.)
Also, do not be intimidated by the math-y content of the book. The author does very well at describing complex number theory and cryptography in a way that is accessible.
I highly recomment this book.
"Flat character, no plot"
Feels amateurish, like a 'first book', and the narrator does little to inject humor or interest to his reading.
"Solid story, does not show its age"
I wasn't sure if I would connect with this one or if it would feel 'old fashioned'. I think it has stood the test of time pretty well: I cared about the main character and felt the story was original. The writing was fine, even eloquent at times. Worth the listen.
"Witty, intelligent sci-fi"
Well written, moves at a brisk pace, great observations of human behavior and earthly culture, and very similar to the way I would handle things if I were put in charge of the e.t.'s debut at the earthly ball.
"recommended for artists!"
I'm an artist in the NY area and I loved this book, particularly the spot-on descriptions of the Manhattan art scene. If you're a fan of timetravel stories and have even a passing interest in art, this book is for you. Great characters, well-written, kept me wondering but had a satisfying conclusion, and considering (literally) today's headlines about re-authenticating Velazquwz's portraits of young King Philip at Prada and The Met, quite timely.
"excellent writing, characters, story"
I highly recommend this book. Unlike much sci-fi or spec. fiction, this book is very well-written in terms of prose, as well as character development. Set in a very believable near-future, the events of worldwide upheaval lend a backdrop for the human drama of the main characters. I truly did not want to finish listening because I wanted the story to keep going!
"interesting storyline, low production values"
This book felt very much like a perfunctory first draft, perhaps of something that would be turned into a movie. The story is interesting, I cared about the characters only moderately, the writing and narraation by the author were lacking. Most annoyingly, the audio quality was not good, which did not add to the narration.
"very enjoyable"
I enjoy Orson Scott Card and found this book to present some interesting views on time travel.
