  • Fifty Shades of Grey: Book One of the Fifty Shades Trilogy

    • UNABRIDGED (19 hrs and 47 mins)
    • By E. L. James
    • Narrated By Becca Battoe
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.

Susan says: "Fifty Shades of Bad Writing"
"Trashy, sorry I wasted my money."
What disappointed you about Fifty Shades of Grey?

Trite story line, poorly written. Nitwit girl awestruck by stereotypic mysterious wealthy control freak. "Romance" novel with kinky sex.

What could E L James have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

    Any additional comments?

Book is incapable of salvage, in my opinion.

  • Blood Money: Jane Whitefield, Book 5

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 31 mins)
    • By Thomas Perry
    • Narrated By Joyce Bean
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Jane Whitefield, the fearless "guide" who helps people in trouble disappear, has just begun her quiet new life as Mrs. Carey McKinnon when she is called upon again to face her toughest opponents yet. Jane must try to save a young girl fleeing a deadly mafioso. The deceptively simple task of hiding the girl propels Jane into the center of horrific events and pairs her with Bernie the Elephant, the Mafia's moneyman.

Nancy F. says: "Engaging Main Character; Fast Pace"
    "Narrator should do research."
Would you consider the audio edition of Blood Money to be better than the print version?

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Narrator is good, except her mispronunciation of italian surnames and italian accent is especially annoying. How did nobody notice this? Otherwise narration is fine and matches pace of the story.

  • The Hunger Games

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 14 mins)
    • By Suzanne Collins
    • Narrated By Carolyn McCormick
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Teddy says: "The Book Deserves The Hype"
    "Needed a younger narrator"
What made the experience of listening to The Hunger Games the most enjoyable?

Drama, survival, good v. evil....always fun!

What other book might you compare The Hunger Games to and why?

Harry Potter series. Meant for the young but enjoyable for all ages, in my opinion.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Carolyn McCormick?

The narrator is too mature to be the voice of the young protagonist, Katniss. Otherwise, yes.

    Any additional comments?

Why would the wards be kept so primitive, while the capital is so technologically advanced?
Sometimes the words and expressions of the young Katniss were just too grown up to be believable coming from a young person.

Although his father had been reluctant to become a field operative, Jack Ryan Jr. wants nothing more. Privately training with a seasoned Special Forces drill instructor, he’s honing his skills to transition his work within The Campus from intelligence analysis to hunting down and eliminating terrorists wherever he can—even as Jack Ryan Sr. campaigns for re-election as President of the United States. But what neither father nor son knows is that the political and the personal have just become equally dangerous.
