Haunted by the freak accident that killed their father when they were children, Jim and Bob Burgess escaped from their Maine hometown of Shirley Falls for New York City as soon as they possibly could. Jim, a sleek, successful corporate lawyer, has belittled his bighearted brother their whole lives, and Bob, a Legal Aid attorney who idolizes Jim, has always taken it in stride. But their long-standing dynamic is upended when their sister, Susan - the Burgess sibling who stayed behind - urgently calls them home.

If you could sum up The Burgess Boys in three words, what would they be?

    Raw, simple truth

What did you like best about this story?

The in-depth look into each character, showing both good and bad in a nonjudgemental way. The description of the town. The way the story unfolds, it takes it's time, but wastes no words.

What about Cassandra Campbell’s performance did you like?

Yes a wonderful reader. I loved the Maine accent and the way she emphasized certain words and phrases.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

At certain times the harshness of the dialogue between the siblings was moving, but in a shocking way. The in-comprehensiveness that Bob had when given the news from Jim.

Stephen King returns to the characters and territory of one of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the boy protagonist of The Shining) and the very special 12-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted fans of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon.

Where does Doctor Sleep rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the most engaging and visually stimulating books I have listened to.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Doctor Sleep?

Child in crib with the piano playing downstairs.

What does Will Patton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

a fierceness in the voice of some of the characters that would be hard to imagine.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was hard to stop, but very long and not a book to listen to in one sitting. It did however make me want to take long walks so I could listen to it.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Possibly if it were 1/2 the length.

What was most disappointing about David Mitchell’s story?

Going on and on about a subject matter I wasn't interested in. The plot or facts were so few and the minutia was abundant. I found myself not listening to it, it was like back-round noise. The plot was way too slow and so many characters, it was confusing b/c it wasn't interesting.

Have you listened to any of Jonathan Aris and Paula Wilcox ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    no

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I'm sure it is fascinating for history buffs. I know my brother loved the book. I am interested in Japan and that time, 1800's, I am interested in.

    Any additional comments?

I think I will stop buying history novels.

What made the experience of listening to State of Wonder the most enjoyable?

The Amazon is so foreign and amazing to read about.

What was one of the most memorable moments of State of Wonder?

    The snake

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    No

    Any additional comments?

I loved the description of the camp where they stayed. I loved the idea of eating the bark and keeping fertile. It made the book more than just scientists in the Amazon, it added a wonder to the story.

Would you try another book from Hilary Mantel and/or Simon Slater?

I would definitely try another Hilary Mantel book. I think she is a talented author. This book would be a good reading book, where where the words would get processed. I struggled to keep up with this story because I was constantly trying to figure out who was talking, what was said and where and when was the narration taking place.

What was most disappointing about Hilary Mantel’s story?

I felt like I needed to know the story and characters well in order to truly appreciate this story. I watched "The Tudors" so I had some knowledge of the history, but I was still lost.

What three words best describe Simon Slater’s performance?

OK, but a difficult book to read because there are so many characters. It was difficult to tell who was talking. And the narration was fast so by the time I might have figured out who was talking, I had missed the essence of what they had said.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

disappointment because I like period literature, but this seemed like a bunch of jumble.

While Abraham Lincoln is widely lauded for saving a Union and freeing millions of slaves, his valiant fight against the forces of the undead has remained in the shadows for hundreds of years. That is, until Seth Grahame-Smith stumbled upon The Secret Journal of Abraham Lincoln, and became the first living person to lay eyes on it in more than 140 years.

What would have made Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter better?

I think the book needed more action. It went on and on about one theme. It brought in Lincoln's life but every part of his life was the same theme of righteousness. it's hard to think what would have made it better. I just didn't like it.

Has Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter turned you off from other books in this genre?

yes, I will not be listening/reading Seth's first book, Jane Austin and the Zombies, or whatever the tittle is.

Did Scott Holst do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

    Yes he was fine.
