Lightspeed is the critically acclaimed, online science fiction magazine edited by best-selling anthologist John Joseph Adams. Each month at lightspeedmagazine.com, top authors and brilliant new voices alike span the genreā€™s full spectrum, from near-future sociological science fiction, to star-spanning hard science fiction, and everything in between. This audiobook contains all the podcasts from Lightspeed's first Hugo-nominated year, performed by a host of star narrators.

As I write this there are only two other reviews, one of which was devastatingly low (1 star) and I almost, foolishly, passed this short story collection by. The one star review was not based on the quality of this collection, it was based on the fact that this was a short story collection and the consumer purchased this thinking it was something different. If you buy a Hip Hop song expecting classical music I suspect you're going to be disappointed. Nonetheless, I haven't yet listened to this, but I strongly suspect it is pretty good being the best short stories collected from Lightspeed magazine over it's first year. I'll try to remember to come back here and write a real review later but I justed wanted to counter-balance the previous ridiculous review.

Father Ruiz-Sanchez is a dedicated man - a priest who is also a scientist, and a scientist who is also a human being. He has found no insoluble conflicts in his beliefs or his ethics...until he is sent to Lithia. There he comes upon a race of aliens who are admirable in every way except for their total reliance on cold reason; they are incapable of faith or belief. Confronted with a profound scientific riddle and ethical quandary, Father Ruiz-Sanchez soon finds himself torn.

I had long been hesitant to listen to this audio book because one of the first reviews was truly awful. I can't begin to guess why that original reviewer bashed this audio book. It's an excellent read of a very good Hugo winning story. I guess the lesson I learned is "you can't always rely on others reviews." This audio book is highly recommended from me.
