"If you are patient, the content is relative."
First I chose to give it a 3 out of 5 stars since when you finally get to hear what the actual 5 Love Languages of Teens, the reason I purchased it, the content is valid and worth the time.
Second, and most dominant opinion was that this book was being delivered from the pulpit. I would say for 70% of the book the focus is on how as parents our best course of action when raising a teen is to lead THE most pious life. I'm sure that this tone and content is meant with the best intention. However, the bulk of my listen was done with my filtering my thoughts and simply forging ahead through until he got to the actual love language parts.
So again I chose to rate it a 3.
"As I am an Expat"
I downloaded the first chapter for free and decided to read it on my Kindle.
Since I am currently living as an expat in Western Europe I definitely identified with the character, the moving overseas, the starting anew. I enjoyed the details on their trips to different cities, which I have also visited so again made a connection.
The story itself was alright, at times difficult to follow between present tense and flashing back.
"Just ok"
I was really looking forward to this book, unfortunately my expectations were not met. There were certainly some body language myths which he dispelled, and I did learn of a couple body language keys that I didn't know.
Honestly it was just ok, I found myself spacing out then coming back and rather than rewind to see what I missed just pushed through to the end.
"Will, Won't & Want"
As suggested in the audio book, my intention was to take on the challenges offered before listening further. However the content was so interesting I found myself drawn in...hence lack of will power.
However, I appreciated the information on studies performed, tasks suggested and results tabulated on willpower.
I appreciated the personal content from his experience in the classroom teaching this as a course.
I have a list of challenges that I will be applying some refreshed willpower motivators to.
Well worth the time and credit invested.
"Writing to right your way"
I have been a fan of Julia Cameron's morning pages since 1992, Mark Levy's taken this concept another step by embellishing the practicality and effectiveness of this technique.
The exercises he offered in the book made it impractical for me to listen while commuting as I was perpetually drawn to want to pause and give myself the ten minutes. However having listened through once, I will start again, this time with hands poised over the keyboard or with pen in hand.
For those who are drawn to writing as a hobby or profession, this book is loaded with great sources to create prompts to get the words flowing. For those who are drawn to writing as a means of releasing the jumble within your mind, I stand behind my title of this review in that this technique can help you to use "Writing to Right your Way".
For those who are neither drawn to nor use writing as a tool, I feel this would be an effective approach to stimulate your communication technique of choice and add value.
The narrator was brilliant, the one addendum is that I felt at times he spoke to quickly and I gratefully employed the 30sec rewind button numerous times.
"Funny & Enlightening"
I read this book a year ago and laughed and sniggered aloud ...throughout! I Loved It! When I was looking for a light and entertaining listen I was so excited to see that this was on audio.
I completely subscribe to this fictional idea and like to think that JC did have a buddy like Biff!
"Excellent Information for Communication!"
The book may contain things you may already know inherently, however it offers some excellent insight to improving one's listening skills. This is my second listen to the narrator and I would not hesitate to listening to him recite the phone book. His intonation, pace and pleasant timber makes for a great listen.
"Another Great Listen"
Having listened to The Breadwinner & Parvena's Journey, we had to listen to Mud City and we were not disappointed. The story was engaging and was easy to imagine in our mind's eye. The narrator did an excellent job in differentiating the characters and her speech was clear and distinct.
"For my Tween & Teen"
The energy of the author/narrator was great, hits the target audience well. My disappointment was in the actual recording of the audio. As it was done "live" there were times when the audio blared and others when you couldn't hear it, that was a problem as we listen on our commute and those instances took away from the content.
Aside from that the content was good. Clear and concise. I have asked my kids to listen again on their own and follow the instructions to set some goals.
"Truly Brilliant."
After I listened to this book I went to Sarah's website as I wanted to learn where her story of loss came from. I downloaded this for my pre-teens to listen to but did so initially as a screening. I know that my children will definately benefit and be able to relate to the conflict of moving forward. I'm so grateful for the story and the narrator did an excellent job.
