Once a city of enormous wealth and culture, Prague was home to emperors, alchemists, astronomers, and, as it’s whispered, hell portals. When music student Sarah Weston lands a summer job at Prague Castle cataloging Beethoven’s manuscripts, she has no idea how dangerous her life is about to become. Prague is a threshold, Sarah is warned, and it is steeped in blood. Soon after Sarah arrives, strange things begin to happen. She learns that her mentor, who was working at the castle, may not have committed suicide after all. Could his cryptic notes be warnings?

    No.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator used poor at best, and offensive at worst, accents. Several of her pronuciations were very distracting, especially "muzam" for museum.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from City of Dark Magic?

The gratuitous sex scenes were completely out of place and only distracted from the narrative.

    Any additional comments?

The premise was so promising that the poor execution was even more disappointing. The main character is a strange amalgamation of serious academic and 'party-girl' undergraduate with extremely questionable judgement.

Julia Hamill has made a horrifying discovery on the grounds of her new home in rural Massachusetts: a skull buried in the rocky soil human, female, and, according to the trained eye of Boston medical examiner Maura Isles, scarred with the unmistakable marks of murder.

Would you try another book from Tess Gerritsen and/or Susan Denaker?

    Probably not.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The basic story line was enjoyable, if a bit predictable. The dialogue, however, was so melodramatic and full of hyperbole that I expected to hear a corny pipe organ play "duh duh DUH" at the end of almost every paragraph.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Susan Denaker?

    I'm not sure.

Was The Bone Garden worth the listening time?

    Not really.
